2-3 day overstay by visitor. Best remedy?

Featured Replies

Hi Ubonjoe. I had posted about doing the run or going to immigration for an acquaintance of my friends visiting here for 2 months who is just about to go on his second. So the person visiting is still waiting for his Western Union funds correction of number, and so as of today is 1 day overstay. He might be 2-3 days, so now that he is overstay what is advised? Go to immigration and pay it? Will this be ok and no reprimand as in arrest, but only having fine? Or make it to a border with out getting caught? His situation, but if needed will steer him the right better way. Ths is for Chaing Mai.

thank you

Since can apply for a 30 day extension he could go to immigration pay the fine and get the the extension.

Good to hear he will have no problems as long as he makes it to the office. Will tell him to be a good boy and keep a low profile until then. Thank you.

Where is the Office for this in Chiang Mai. [case] a friend, from Canada, just said he is having a good time in Chiang Mai, so he will stay another month.. asked him if he had 3 month Visa or the 30 day Entry. - Entered Kingdom Oct 8th, 30 day. asked me if they are strict about Visa times? darn tooting I told him.

so.... he has 2 days...

is that enough time for Lao Visa run? does he only get 2 weeks coming back by land?

can the extension, mentioned above be gotten before expiry? date, or does he apply after he is state of overstay?

how much does the extension cost?

sumary,,, is border run best or the 30 day extension?

oh/// is there a mark on the passport for paying a fine?

The immigration office is near the airport.

The extension can be done a couple of weeks early. Nothing is lost by doing it early because it starts at end of the 30 day entry. His last day is today without paying an overstay it will just be a 500 baht fine tomorrow. There will be a stamp for the overstay.

A Canadian gets 30 days at a border crossing (G7 country rule).

He could get a 2 entry tourist visa in Vientiane Laos.

you are amazing UJ... price of the extension?, his hotel owner says it costs 2000B

The extension costs 1900 baht.

His FB Post "The ladies here [hotel] are quite sure it's 1900 and only 7 days. [for the extension] So I will go Myanmar tomorrow and in total pay 1500.

4 hours there and 4 back
---------------

The extension costs 1900 baht.

and it;s 30 days, right, not 7? he doesn't have mobile and is stuck on the hotel pc... this info is a life saver UJ

It is a 30 day extension for a visa exempt entry.

Best remedy. Don't allow it to happen in the first place.

And in the OP's case, I am at a complete loss to understand why his friend considers it so necessary to have his Western Union funds number corrected (whatever this means) before he can leave the country!

i have no regrets for overstayers. if you want that, do it, but dont cry for help.

Who's crying ? Have you been asked for anything ?

Visa was on 30th day - he got to Immigration Office near the airport and stamped for 30 more days, 1900 B. tnx UJ!

*oh*.. one last detail - the extension says [one time] are people on this extension still allowed to do border runs?, apply for Ed visa?. go to Lao and fly back for a new 30 day entry. ?

They can do all that. No need to fly back, can re-enter via land.

If from a G7 country 30 days, otherwise most others 15 days.
