yet another ED visa question

Featured Replies

Okay,

So I keep on hearing things are going to 8 hours a week for studying

Here is my situation

1. Living in Chiang Mai now going to a school 4 hours a week on ED Visa

2. Just this week I was approved for another 3 months on my present ED Visa

3. I also go to a private teacher 3 times a week for a total of 6 hours (not part of my ED Visa ) - so I am not concerned about going to 8 hours a week, so please

dont post about how I should be happy its going to 8 hours, in fact it would not bother me at all.

My question is what happens to a visa that is already set up for 4 hours - Will the school start to increase my hours and i have to pay more, will the visa just work fine for the year since it was set up before

the 8 hour changes (if they are 100% confirmed still not sure)

I am worried about my next 3 month extension if I hear sorry you only go school 4 hours, Denied..... I want to make sure I am on the right track before I go for my next extension

So are there actually any solid rules in place or is everything just up in the air at this point

Its funny cause my school and my old school in Chon Buri in which I still keep in contact with as I befriended the teacher there both say nothing has changed, no 8 hours, just keep on doing what you are doing

and as stated above I dont mind going to 8 hours, i go to school all the time, probably almost 100% attendance rate, only missed one sick day and one day doing an visa extension out of my first 3 months

Yes I do use ED Visa to get a visa at this point, nothing wrong with it.. even if I wasnt on an ED visa I still be going to school, I enjoy learning the language though it does frustrate me a lot, but keeps the mind ticking.

cheers all

It may not be changed in Chiang Mai. Thus far it is only Bangkok and Phuket that has been confirmed.

Thanks UbonJoe

So in Bangkok what is happening to someone that is presently on a 4 hour week ED Visa

does he have to

1. Start going 8 hours?

2. Pay more cash?

3. Do nothing since the rules came after he signed up?

I guess I am looking for what could happen to my visa

1. They are requiring the 8 hours to get the documents for a 90 day extension.

2. Not sure how schools are handling it.

3. What you signed up for makes no difference to the MOE.
