Mate - you need to rethink that analogy. If you drive at 60KPH you will do 60Kms in one hour - therefore 1Km in 1 minute. However, you are IMO 'almost correct'. The real reason feet, yards etc are still used a lot is because the height of a human being is very easily estimated when measuring them in feet - I mean how tall is someone that is 1.67 metres high? Likewise, the world professional golf tournaments are all played in yards - and as a player I find it easier to estimate a distance in yards than in metres. But overall the metric system leaves the imperial for dead - especially when it comes to weight and volume. -

State Welfare Card: New Registrations Set for March 2024
In a bid to support low-income citizens, the Ministry of Finance has announced plans to open new registrations for the State Welfare Card programme early next year, targeting March 2024. The card, a crucial lifeline for many, is due for its biennial eligibility review, following the last registration window that occurred from September to October 2022. This welfare card aids citizens in bridging financial gaps amidst rising costs of living and economic challenges. Currently, about 13.5 million people are registered, a decrease from the previous 14.9 million, a drop partially attributed to natural attrition like deaths. The eligibility criteria for this financial assistance is expected to remain consistent. Applicants continue to be assessed based on individual and family financial circumstances—key conditions include an annual personal income cap of 100,000 baht for Thais aged 18 and above. Likewise, family incomes should average no more than this amount per person annually. Restrictions further extend to asset ownership and debts, ensuring aid reaches those most in need. Benefits provided by the welfare card remain steady. These include monthly allowances for essential goods, public transport, and billing discounts for utilities like water and electricity. While the government maintains current benefits, any changes could arise from new policies. The programme operates on an approximate budget of 50 billion baht per annum, underscoring its significant role in supporting Thailand's vulnerable groups. Did you never consider re-enter permits? VE now grants permission of stay for 60 days. An extension would grant a further 30 days.
