Japanese vs Thai food - which do you like better and why?

I found that the low end, mom and pop places in CA had the best food...the likes of 'Benihana of Tokyo' only have teppanyaki this and teriyaki that, tempura and sushi and no nabe stews, soba and etc, couldn't even get a decent bowl of miso soup fer christsakes...and the big chain restaurants are always 3 - 4 times the price as they are usually housed in 4 star hotels and etc...rubbish...

I prefer Japanese as it is less spicy than Thai.
