Can I get 30 days in mae sai?

Featured Replies

I came to Thailand on a double entry tourist visa. I extended each so I have been here 6 months. My visa runs out in days, can I do a border run to Mae Sai or is this not an option? I know if it isn't I either have to go to Laos and apply for another tourist visa or fly out and in.

If anyone could help or has done this recently, please let me know asap.

Thanks

If you are from a G7 country you will get 30 days other wise it is a 15 day visa exempt entry at a border crossing.

It is now possible to extend a visa exempt entry for 30 days at immigration.

So to clarify, I had a double entry tourist visa, extended the first entry for 30 days, then the second for 30 days. Now it's done, so your saying I can go to Mae Sai and get 30 days (visa exempt entry)?

Sorry, I have googled this but I'm still confused. Thanks

Answered in post #2 what exactly you don't understand ?

You will not get a 30 days unless your are from a G7 country at Mae Sai.

No problem to do the border crossing for a visa exempt entry only a current visa exempt entry is checked for.

I am confused because I don't believe I have a visa exempt stamp? Or am I completely misunderstanding something?

I appreciate the help, thanks

you can do a visa exempt entry following an extended tourist visa entry

what you may not be able to do, is a visa exempt entry following a visa exempt entry

" I don't believe I have a visa exempt stamp?"

You cross the border into Thailand, go up to the Thai immigrations officer and s/he will give you a visa exempt entry of 30 days if you are from a G7 country and you don't have a visa or a 15 day entry if not G7.

Before the expiration date written on the stamp you receive at the border, you can go to an immgrations office and extend your stay by an additional 30 days, just as you did with the tourist visa.

You don't have the stamp now. You are given it when you present your passport to the Thai immigrations officer.

You cannot stay in Thailand continuously by getting repeated visa exempt entries, but since this is (apparently) your first, there should be no problem.

Thank you people, i now understand and really appreciate the help. So i can go to mae sai and get a 30 day visa exempt stamp/entry. I may not be able to extend that, but wouldn't need to anyway. I have done back to back visas before but not in the last two years.

So i can go to mae sai and get a 30 day visa exempt stamp/entry. I may not be able to extend that,

You would be able to extend that.
