PM: LPG price must rise to reflect true cost

BANGKOK, 8 Nov 2014 (NNT) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has told the public to brace for higher living cost as a result of the rise in LPG price.

The LPG price would however be raised gradually in line with the market mechanism to reflect the true cost, the Premier said, adding that the government would try its best to minimize the effects on consumers.

PM Prayut admitted that consumer products may be a bit more expensive as a result. However, the Ministry of Commerce has been assigned to map out plans to handle the effects of the LPG price rise on general people and business operators. br/>
The Premier asked operators not to overcharge customers as the new LPG price was only 50 satang higher per kilo. He suggested that those involved in trading, including middlemen should learn to accept lower profits, so that the public would be least affected. At the same time, consumers should also boycott outlets that quote inordinately high prices.

Although the Ministry of Commerce has not inspected any outlets, those which reportedly overcharge customers will definitely face the music, PM Prayut reiterated.
