What is the current VOA situation in Mae Sot?

Featured Replies

I have a UK passport with a 30 day VOA (entering at Chong Mek from Laos). If I do a border run to Burma from Mae Sot will I get another 30 days - and if so, how many times am I currently able to repeat this?

You certainly do not have a VOA since your are from the UK plus Chong Mek does not do them. You have a 30 day visa exempt entry.

You don't need to do a border run. You can now get a 30 day extension of your 30 day entry at an immigration office. The fee is 1900 baht.

Not sure about Mae Sot but some crossings are only allowing one visa exempt entry.

Your question is about visa exempt, not visa on arrival.

You can be refused entry at the second time already. Better you get a 30 days extension at immigration, cost is Bt 1,900.

Many thanks - I should say visa exempt.

How many times can I get this extension at the immigration office?

One time.

You can get it one time for each entry,

I was at the Mae Sot border yesterday. The guy in front of me was turned away from the departures window because he didn't have an onward ticket. Assuming he was on visa-exempt and planning to get another. Tthings looked rather heated, so seemed like not the best time to chat with the guy about specifics.

Many thanks. Very useful

I entered Mae Sot Thailand from Burma on 12 October and went back to Myanmar on 15 October. I think even if you did it there and succeeded you would only get another 14 days. My stamp was from 12 Oct to 26 Oct.

I have since flown to Bangkok from Yangon and got a 30 day on arrival here.

The 1900 baht for a one month extension is pretty reasonable.

These visa exempts are a great time saver and convenience for short term visitors like myself coming in and out on business.

You're not from a G7 country? Op is from the UK and they will get 30 days upon arrival by land, unless most other countries.
