Four crews went missing after their trawler capsized

PATTANI: -- Four crew members of a trawler went missing after their fishing vessel capsized in the stormy sea about 80 kilometres off the coast of Pattani on Sunday.

Mr Prathuang Tippayamart, president of Pak Phanang fishery association in Nakhon Si Thammarat, said that one crew member of the ill-fated trawler, Kor Phu Ngern, was however rescued by another trawler but four others were still unaccounted for.

He said that the sea where Kor Phu Ngern was fishing was very rough with waves as high as four metres and the trawler capsized. Two of the missing crews are natives of Nakhon Si Thammarat and the other two are foreign migrant workers.

The Navy has despatched a vessel and a plane to scour the sea to look for the missing crews.

Always sad to hear about fisherman lives lost but so often nowadays its a result of greed.

There was several days warning there was going to be a real "blow" and high waves and most boats chose to return to port.

Maybe could not return to port because of the foreign migrant workers. Certainly lots of

notice about the storm. Oil platforms evacuated, plenty of news articles.

Insightful perspective.
