(12 November 2014) A huge fire broke out before dawn Wednesday at the SVI Public Company Limited’s (SVI) electronic product manufacturing plant in Bangkadi Industrial Estate in Pathumthani on Tiwanond road forcing the evacuation of hundreds of workers from the compound.

By 9.00 am today the fire is still raging as more than 40 fire trucks are still combating the fire since 4.45 am.

Fire hits electronic parts factory in Pathum Thani

BANGKOK: -- A building of SVI factory that makes electronic parts was burnt down early Wednesday, police said. The fire broke out a 5 am.

Some 20 fire engines could only prevent the blaze from spreading to other buildings before the entire building was consumed by the fire. Rescuers evacuated 200 workers out of the factory and two of them were rushed to hospital after inhaling smoke.

BANGKOK: -- A huge fire broke out before dawn Wednesday at the SVI Public Company Limited’s (SVI) electronic product manufacturing plant in Bangkadi Industrial Estate in Pathumthani on Tiwanond road forcing the evacuation of hundreds of workers from the compound.

By 9.00 am today the fire is still raging as more than 40 fire trucks are still combating the fire since it started at 4.45 am.

SVI has five manufacturing plants, three of which are located in Bangkadi Industrial Estate.

It is still unknown which plant caught fire.

According to Pathumthani police, the fire happened at the 200×300 metres plant which produced electronic components and quickly raged to the godown area where finished parts were stored

Two female workers were injured from suffocation.

The poisonous fumes from the fire forced rescue officials and plant security to evacuate all 600 workers who worked at other plants nearby.

Initial damages to the plant was believed to over 100 million baht.

The cause of fire was still unknown as the fire is still raging but contained in specific area.

Possible, but so far no information to base anything on.

Electronics factories, especially if they are cleaning equipment, use very volatile cleansing agents to clean circuit boards.

They can ignite easily and produce fumes that can hurt people when they burn.

Always could be an accidental fire.

Fire razed Bangkadi factory

PATHUMTHANI, 12 November 2014 (NNT) --A huge fire burned down an electronics component factory in an industrial estate just north of Bangkok early Wednesday morning.

More than 20 water trucks rushed to SVI Factory in Pathumthani Bangkadi Industrail estate as soon as the fire was reported. It took them an hour to put under control the blaze which destroyed the whole building.
Two workers were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. They are now in good condition.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze. Damage to the building and other assets is estimated at over 100 million baht.

I'm a consultant engineer and work on the periphery of the insurance industry in Thailand. I can tell you from experience that most fires of this type in PCB manufacturing plants begin within, or in close proximity to the plating lines. It is not unusual for these fires to burn aggresively for many hours, they are notoriously difficult to extinguish and unfortunately are not unusual within the industry.

This is a pure Thai-listed company and a Global Top 50 too, with an International Managerment team. Sad that the company had lost almost everything during the 2011 flods, amazingly recovered very fast and well and is even poised for strong growth. Now she has to come back again, and she will. The company is resilient and will bounce back.

Industry minister orders 60-day closure of fire-damaged SVI factory; 1 billion baht damage expected

PATHUMTHANI, 13 November 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Industry has ordered a 60-day closure of the Pathumthani factory belonging to electronic parts maker SVI Plc. after an intense fire burned through the plant on Wednesday.

Minister of Industry Chakramon Phasukvanich on Wednesday ordered the Department of Industrial Works to shut down the factory for 60 days for inspection of the building's integrity and damage assessment. Mr. Chakramon revealed that the air quality reading in the vicinity of the plant had dropped below the acceptable level during the fire, but has since returned to normal.

Sakda Phankla, director-general of the Department of Industrial Works, said while inspecting the factory in Bang Kadi Industrial Park in Mueang district of Pathumthani that the fire started on the ceiling of the plant, likely from electricity short-circuiting. The fire then spread rapidly throughout the plant, which boasts an area of 20,000 square meters, as it was fueled by alcohol, electrical circuits and plastics inside the building. Total damage value is expected to be at least 1 billion baht.

Two factory employees were reportedly injured after having inhaled smoke, but their condition has improved and they are now deemed safe.
