pgrin
To my knowledge there are no dog-catching businesses here. But there are several organizations/foundations who are active in spay/neuter-release programs, which have time and again been shown far more effective than catch-and-dump or catch-and-kill efforts. Maybe join up with them in case you or anyone find the dogs in the soi annoying. This is of cource complete and utter nonsense. This feel good crap has been around for years and has no basis in fact. Every study done by unbiased research shows that this approach is at best net zero and more likely only makes the problem worse. The Soi Dog Foundation has burned through millions of baht of other peoples money and anyone with a lick of sense knows the problem of feral animals is worse than ever.
Guitar God
So it's impossible? Just give up? Thailand is different from all the other cities on the planet that don't have thousands of stray dogs roaming the cities streets?
sydneyboy
I believe the Amphurs have dog catchers. Contact the local offices I would guess. The solution as to what is done with them is likely the final solution. Confirmed.... I remember some 20 years ago on Samui, there were really lots of strays everywhere. One day, some official looking geezers killed them with poisoned arrows, fired from air rifles. I saw a truck, full of dead dogs, taking them to...... god knows where they took them. That was very cruel and so sad to see. Hope it will never happen again. They are just poor animals with no rights whatsoever. rather like us then No... Soi dogs have more rights than a falang in Thailand. They come just behind the water buffalo and before the garbage rats... Then comes the Falang.
DrTuner
The Thai way of doing this is swapping dogs for plastic buckets.
circusman
In the past, the Royal Thai army have fulfilled this role, in one of their more useful functions. They used to round up the mutts , take them out of town and let the recruits have target practice on them. If you think CM has a dog problem now, you should've seen it 20 years ago. Are you sir still living in the 80's or 90's. Let it go.

Do you have research reports that backs up your claims? Also those that backs up your accusation of Soi Dog Foundation? This subjects interests me, So, I welcome the research reports you come up with. Thank you.
a99az
Sure are dog catchers and they are easy to spot as they drive slow stopping every now and again to take a dog and give in return to the owner a bright new plastic washing bowl or bucket depending on the size of the dog. Thank you. May we then carefully conclude that the results of the reports Catch(trap)-neuter-release(return) for: feral cats are quite negative, and for free roaming dogs positive? And thus, it is advisable to continue with the TNR programs for dogs, but for cats more study is needed in order to solve this over-population under the feral cats in a humane way? JulieM
Am I missing something? All of the reports provided by pgrin seem to be about cats, not dogs. I hope pgrin can respond to Nienke.
