Hi guys,

I need some advice please about getting my new born son a British passport. Here is the current situation:

I am a British citizen/passport holder but was born in Germany (Military Base)

Baby boy born last week on 04/11/14 in Pattaya

Partner is Thai

We are not married

We have a birth certificate with my passport name on it as the father

Based on the above facts I was under the impression that my son would have an automatic right to a British passport, until i noticed a couple points on other forums which worry me :

1. Someone suggested that if the father is a British citizen born abroad then we have to register the birth of my son in the UK as part of the process.

2. This is the big one. Someone told me that I will need to show my own birth certificate to get my son a British passport. This is impossible, I havent seen the thing for 20 odd years and nearly no hope of getting it as I was born on a military base that now doesnt exist.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge of above i would appreciate any comments.

It appears you will need your parents full birth certificates as well yours since you were born outside the UK.
