Lift martial law, restore democracy, UN chief tells PM Prayut

Recommended Posts

Sounds like Ban Ki - Moon is well aware that Thailand was being held by the barrel of a gun. The gun of which killed over 20 people and injured over 600. Ban Ki - Moon is also well aware that the military came in peacefully, brought all the parties together and told them to resolve their issues. The ball was in the politicians court. They chose not to resolve there issues and the military, without a single bullet fired, not a single loss of life, took control at which time the guns, the bullets, the deaths and the injuries ceased. Ban Ki - Moon is well aware of this and as such acknowledged the most popular PM in the last decade (unless anyone have evidence to show otherwise?)

Just as the UN chief quoted the UN play book when he expressed his concern of martial law and encouraging a prompt return to civilian rule and constitutional order in Fiji he has stated the same thing here and one can have no doubt that just like Fiji, democracy will be restored in Thailand as well with Ban Ki - Moon congratulating the elected PM Prayut upon successfully winning the election (just like he did to the military leader that won the free and fair election in Fiji).

And then of course we have the potential trade agreements with Russia that will offer economic benefits to Thailand as well. Again, an example of the Junta putting the country first and because of this it is ignored by some as it does not suit the PTP narrative. Prayut did not need to travel to a new country every two weeks over 6 months to secure these deals either. Maybe Prayut could open up some trade agreements with the Maldives as well because the last and only official visit in Thailand history to the Maldives only opened up rumors and speculation from the tax payer.

Ban Ki-Moon is not aware of anything he is Americas puppet....

The coup was to remove the Shins from power and to put in place a "democratic" system that would prevent them getting back in power without a lot of hassle, nothing more and that is showing more so day by day.

Ban and the world know this, but too many other problems worldwide to make much of an issue of it while the military are not abusing human rights too much.

Exactly right. The wrong people kept winning the elections. (by a huge margin.)

Funny thing is, the losers kept crying vote buying but at the same time, denied international election observers.

Resorted to the coup again and again. Create a mob that shuts down an airport or Bangkok and call in their buddies in the Army to prevent a disaster!

The UN and every ambassador stationed in Thailand know whats going on. That's why the General cant get a VISA to the US or dozens of other countries.

With this amount of funds and full scale vote buying I or my dog would win the election and get premier.....With enough cash, even being a Farang would be just a "honest mistake" like Thaksins "honest mistake" when the got him for lying.

Your first line is correct. It conflicts because you want it to. I read the topic and it was fair---the headline stirs up problem posters.

No but the part where they give "Reasons" for the Coup . was not part of the "Discussion" with Moon that the Headline suggests. They are not quotes so why are they there ?

So I take it you do not want to know the real reasons for the coup. You must along with all your followers stick to your plan A and hate the PM.

Can you explain to us why we should have sympathy for the coup and the junta ?

Who wants sympathy ?? your post does not open the correct fields for discussion, as it implies a one sided attitude.

Only one way to go like it or lump it---only this way to pave the way for elections FIJI style. The UN understands and naturally it is not in favour of army control the same as me. The UN wants elections like anyone BUT in favourable to ALL conditions.

Where have you been?

The vote buying excuse was put to bed.

Even Korn, a Democrat big wig admits that. And besides, the losers would not have international election observers. Funny, eh?

Scream vote buying after every loss but deny a remedy. Create a crisis and call in their buddies in the Military.

Thailand cozying up (polite phrase for licking arse) to China and Russia so much is frankly quite worrying.

What is the road map to democracy again? When is the next election due, must be 2016 at this stage is it?

The red shirts on this thread are a bit nauseating, what is with the constant white washing of their past?

YES Pheu Thai won the elections

YES they bought votes and set up an aura of intimidation in rural areas to vote for them

YES they were insanely corrupt in every level in government

YES they wasted gigantic amounts of money on nonsense like the tablet scheme and the rice scheme

The truth of the matter is this - Pheu Thai were awful in government and the Democrats were nearly just as bad. Thailand has no political parties in it that aren't tainted by corruption and bad governance. Why do we waste time cheerl eading Thai political parties on this forum that

a) are corrupt to the core

b..) have no problems with resorting to illegal tactics when they lose an argument

c) don't give a flying duck about their immigrant population

I'm on this thread because I have an interest politics but there is no way in hell I am going to give a moment of my time bigging up the latest reincarnation of the Shinawatra clan in political party form or Abhisit's outrageous collection of old old money farts backed up by even older old money farts in the military.

UN general secretary is a puppet of US, so it means Uncle Sam wants to take back control of Thailand - by supporting certain candidates (on elections), who will execute orders from Washington - to buy American state bonds, invest in American assets, to give special conditions for American business etc.

there is no way to manipulate a PM, appointed by His Majesty, but it's jokingly easy to buy, support and manipulate a populist candidate on elections. Signature American way of doing business.

The UN is corrupt and useless

and Thailand is not corrupt? you think it's ok to take the country by gun and then you are shocked when the international community does not 'endorse' the dictatorship?

First, It is none to limited business of the UN. They can not even control what is going on on the African Continent and Middle East and now they want to tell Thailand how to take care of business !!

Second, They need to walk in some of the Thai and Ex Pat's shoes before they form an opinion. This country was being eaten alive with corruption and someone needed to stop it. Corruption is not a head cold, it is a Cancer !! It is next to prostitution as the oldest profession and political corruption is the worst form.

I believe the world can function without the EU and/or UN both are bottom feeding organizations.

sorry to disappoint you, but there is no such a thing as "international community". There are USA and its satellites, who sing from State department's voice.

one who executes US orders - is good and democratic, and the one who does not is a dictator, extremist, terrorist etc

"Somoza may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch." said Roosevelt

not so long time ago 43 students was killed without trial by Mexican government in Guerrero State, but American and European "independent" media seemed to have no interest in that story - you guess why...

Maybe martial law cannot be lifted until the new constitution is set in stone, giving representation only to the middle class and the elite of Thailand? As the water buffalo from the country are uneducated to make decisions on state policy; or the fact that over 70% of GDP is spent on Bangkok.

The south haven’t adopted the new education model that negates their cultural roots.

The press still needs to be controlled?

The judicial system still needs to be fine-tuned to the way of the new master?

Or the fear that there is some type of undercurrent to the way changes are happening in the country?

But then again Ban is no fool. Sounds as though the rhetoric of saving the country from itself is not working; as if that was the case the military would have stepped in long before it actually did, to protect the elected government? Democratic process?

No EU - full scale European war within 50 years

No UN - above European war goes worldwide

The dear leader made a public announcement and spoke to Thai's on behalf of the world saying that the world was very happy with Thailand, the coup and martial law. The supreme leaders propaganda machines manure being fed to the mushrooms has come back to slap him in the face again. He should stop making announcements on behalf of others until he consults them 1st. How could anyone seriously believe a single thing said by this government.

No body outside TH believes any of this newspeak, doublespeak propaganda. It is for domestic consumption attempting to consolidate financial and power base whilst suppressing any opposition/criticism. They are going for the big lie told often enough, more people will start to believe it, just like Goebbels with his Ministry of Propaganda and National Enlightenment. Even some posters here swallow the misinformation with relish!

As good citizens we should show loyal support for the good generals prog of reform, attitude adjustment, reconciliation, national indoctrination, press restrictions etc. All much needed to impose the happy path of the generals` reforms on a willing nation. To crticise is not allowed, it`s just not military `Thai`.

The UN, Ambassadors & Diplomats don't read The Nation or other Thai papers to form their opinions.

Universities and Embassy staff prepare briefings or 'scene setters' before a meeting is set with a PM or President, etc.

In these circles the facts are understood. That's why nobody is supporting this PM.

The Australian National University - ANU has been following Thailand for years and have some interesting studies, discussions with academics, intellectuals and experts on S.E. Asia.

The problem which the good General/PM doesn't seem to understand is that he is self appointed. No one voted him to do this job, he took the job at gunpoint. I am your leader, I give you happenist.

He is trying to do a good job but he just don't understand he would be accepted more if he was elected to do the job where people had the freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest. But now it's only do as i say and if you don't like it I will reeducate you until you do like it or go see my military judge.

The general claims they had no choice.. how about just stopping the protesters from blocking government and letting the elected government continue. Surely that's a better option?

The headline says it all then the article just spirals into more BS propaganda .

He's been told by the world to give Thailand back to the people yet he goes on about how the world understands and are supportive .

What the world understands is that you took power by the barrel of a gun from a democratic nation and you have been told in no uncertain terms to return it to the people.

The daily propaganda that hits the media is wearing very thin now as only die hard junta supporters are swallowing it and even they must be having trouble doing that.

No he's not Parrott. He's been told by the most ineffective leader the UN has ever had.

Will this UN leader be telling Mr. Putin to pull out of Ukraine, China to become a democracy and rushing to North Korea to tell them to change.

The world, most of it, couldn't really give a shit about Thailand. Those that do understand the corrupt nature of the various hiso clicks that fight for power so they can enrich themselves. That would include a family headed by a convicted criminal with a penchant for ruling through corruption nepotism and street violence.

Great in theory - only the government that had been elected were acting illegally. People were being attacked and killed in order to maintain those illegal acts.

Handing over control of the country to a government acting illegally that is being totally controlled by a non elected criminal fugitive surely can not be a better option.

The real losers, as always are the Thai people. The 99.99% that don't won most of the wealth that is.

Yes " we only intervened to prevent a civil war"!! Yeah sure!

You seem to "forget" there was a election sceduled for Feb this their, where Suthep and his henchmen did everything in their power to prevent the Thai people, you care so much about, to exercise their democratic right to go to the ballotbox.

And if the Thais want a government controlled by Mr T, then it is their choice.

And all along the army was biding their time at the sidelines, waiting for the word from above!!

i say implement martial law in almost every western country to reform the mess that the politicians have created through their corrupt selling out to the banks and big corporations. Set it up so politicians are responsible for the crimes they commit against the people they are there to serve and then start putting their <deleted> in jail where they belong. Then you can think about restoring democracy.

The world is waiting General for you to lift your Martial Law. Don't tell the people everyone understands, they don't understand.

it's obvious that you don't understand but a lot of people do.

Yesterday the Thai propaganda let everyone in Thailand know that Ban of the UN fully understands things that happen in Thailand but good point that at least some Thai media don't spin around stories and point to the UN statement. The Japanese PM too asked once again Prayuth to have a civilian government installed.

If Thailand continues this role for another one to two year you can be assured that the Kingdom will be hit badly with sanctions such as in the past in Myanmar.

I am not a fan of the UN or BKM the SG of the UN but the world will just wait for early next year to see if the General is serious.

And you are not biased, right?

It's sad to watch Prayuth scuttling around, trying to get famous people to shake his hand.

So you would prefer an inept Government (that was selected...not elected) to continue with it's blatant corruption and putting the country in debt for countless generations ???

It is quite legal to have protests but it is illegal to have an uncontrollable armed group attack peaceful protesters..

You mean those peaceful protestors that violated their fellow citizens right to vote and run for office ?

That act is a criminal act by the way.

The previous government wasn't selected, it was elected and had the backing of 300 out of 500 seats in parliament. The current one IS selected and has no backing from the Thai electorate.
