Chiang Mai By Way Of Sukkothai

Featured Replies

Hi gang.

I am satrting off in Bangkok and I would like to slowly work my way up to Chiang Mai by way of Sukkothai over the course of a week.

Any suggestions about what method of travel would be the easiest and any interesting sights to catch along the way? I remember hearing that there is another temple compound near Sukkothai but i can't recall any of the particulars.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :o

KC,

I did this trip last April and found it to be OK.

I would rent a car, personally. There is so much to see and when you get to SukoThai the local transportation is scarce.

A good place to stay is in Phitsanaluk, you could consider the train to here than a car rental to Sukothai.

If you drive, consider taking the backroad to Chiangmai, it follows the Mae Ping and is quite scenic.

PM me for more details.

There is a decent hotel in New Sukhothai..."The River View Hotel". See link below:

The other historical site in the area is Si Satchanalai-Chalieng, 75 - 80 km north of Old Sukhothai.

Rent a car in Bangkok.

renting a car sounds like fun.

How much does it cost? Do companies do 'one way' rentals or would i have to drive back?
