Web users debunk Russian TV's MH17 claim
By Vitaly Shevchenko

Russian state TV has broadcast what it claimed to be a photo of the moment Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down by a Ukrainian fighter jet. But many commentators dismissed the image as a "crude fake".

Late on 14 November, Russia's state-controlled Channel One TV broadcast what appeared to be a satellite photo of a passenger plane and a jet fighter in the skies above Donetsk, a separatist stronghold in Ukraine. It was, the report said, the moment the Ukrainian jet fired a missile at MH17.

The Russian idiots should have ensured they photo shopped a Boeing 777 which MH17 was rather than the fake Boeing 767 they used. Would have helped to if they had photo shopped the Malaysian Airlines logo into the right place on the jet. Also that the Russian alleged jet shown was a SU-25 that the Russian propaganda first said was the guilty fighter jet type.

Putin and his Russian supported Ukrainian separatists should just own up to what happened - Ukrainian separatists with Russian missile support but very basic radar or more so the sharp point of the stuff up - no radar identification skills or failing to undertake that prior to pressing the fire button - as per recorded tweets caught then out on the day - took the "bird" down by mistake thinking it was a Ukrainian plane. The more they try and worm out with their pathetic feeble cover up attempts the more guilty and stupid they are looking.

I fully agree. This little Russian president with a way to big opinion on himself has wedged himself in a position from where escape without losing face is impossible. That's why he and Russia's military force is lately behaving more and more aggressive. Putin is a real danger for the stability and peace in the world. If the Russian people were clever and want a peaceful quiet life, they should get rid of this little rat who is afraid to look you straight in the eyes.

Sounds very Orwellian to me, with "Big Brother" changing history at a whim to convince the populace that they are the ones "in the right". Doesn't matter (much) if it's true or not, as long as the majority of your subjects believe it.

In some ways it is harder to do these days because of the proliferation of information available on various media platforms. On the other hand, technology allows for the easy creation of realistic forgeries that are hard to debunk. As most of the populace fall into the "sheeple" category (and at least half are of "below average" intelligence), pulling the wool over their eyes isn't that difficult. Just ask the various religious leaders around the world. They perfected those techniques thousands of years ago and are still going strong.

I thinks it's more incredible how poorly this fake was done. At least 5 glaringly wrong errors pointed out so far and I'm sure there are Int analysts scrambling to find more.

The Russians are normally quite well informed about their leader and are disdainful of his activities. To the outside world the Russian PM is often quite accepted but not on this occasion. Hopefully he will realise the error of his ways and wash his hands of Ukraine but I think not. As others have said, he is digging himself and his country into a deeper and deeper hole. Do Russians have a loss of face syndrome?

Sadly the new (wished for) USSR of Putin is no more honest or transparent than in the Lenin/Stalin days. Putin like his two predecessor is a megalomaniac, a narcissist and possibly a psychopath. He is probably the most dangerous person on earth…lies. lies, lies…nothing has changed in 60 years!

Im pretty sure if Russia wanted to do a proper fake they would of done it alot better, pretty much everything with the image is wrong, wrong fighter type, wrong airliner type, wrong airline logo , hardcore/unrealistic missile attack angle and range, location, resolution ect

Real question is, what was going on in 1ch RU's minds when they decided to air it and embarrass their country?

Everbody have a loss of face syndrome !

Whether or not this is a fake photo I have no idea as I have no expert. But it beats me how you can tell the "Malaysia" logo on the plane from the photograph was in the wrong place"

My eysight is none to good but I can't even make out any logo let alone if one is in the right or wrong place..

Same goes for whether it was a Boeing 767, and not a 777, but I guess an "expert' can tell the difference from this photo.

Hopefully all this speculation will get resolved soon now that the wreckage has been removed and can be examined by the NTSB

this is the equivalent of the Daily Mail or Daily Mirror getting hold of a pic emailed to them anonymously and splashing it on their front page to sell newspapers

it has nothing to do with Putin or the Russian govt

its just more western propaganda to try and discredit the Ruskies and cover up the fact that the USA backed Ukraine govt shot down the plane with a Su25 Fighter

of course the TV Americans will believe anything their state controlled media feeds them

There is no media in Russia that is not "state controlled".

Anything that supports the "We're not doing anything" Putin narrative will get the Vlad thumbs up.

  • 6 months later...

I recall the commander (or whatever his title) of the aircraft battery on the ground admitting he fired at it. After learning it wasn't a threating aircraft (after the damaged was done) he commented "well, this is a war zone, it shouldn't be flying here."

Russia has a wiz-kid propagandist whose brilliant tactic is to release conflicting information -- conflicting with his own previous info, keeps everyone guessing. Read an article about him recently.
