Cheers for your help and thanks in advance

I am now filling the online form in and in the part Under 18.....

The question is: Are you staying at a private address yes/no.....

If we pick yes it wants details including how long will you stay there, this seems a bit odd as in guidelines it states the following.....

5.4 Is the address you will be staying at a private address?

Answer Yes/No. If you are staying somewhere other than a private address, for example, an hotel, then please provide full details

including how long you will be staying there.

So the guidelines point towards if you answer NO then you would fill in the required parts.

Obviously they are staying with us, so am a bit puzzled.

Any ideas.

Thanks again and sorry to be a pain.

It appears you have friends coming over who are staying with you at a private address.

You say 'Obviously they are staying with us'!

No problem.

They are not staying in a hotel.

They are staying with you?

How long?

Just answer the questions.

Hi and cheers Jay.

Friends no. We are applying for my wife's Children.

I have answered the questions but surely this is a mistake, as if you were to put a public place like a hotel then there would be nothing to fill in, which must be wrong.....no.

Maybe i am being thick and missing the point.

Thanks anyhow.

If you stay at a hotel they have to fill in documents to say you are there, for how long and include a copy of your passport.

Or something along those lines.

Its settlement visa.

And thats why i think it is wrong, as if you answer YES staying at private address which they are as it is our house you have to fill everything out and if you answer NO obviously a public address ie, Hotel then nothing further to fill in.

According to the guidelines for the written form it points to you filling out if you are staying at public ie, Hotel......So seems wrong to me unless like i said im missing something.

Cheers all.

Is for the UK, but that would make no difference mate as the query is in the post as i believe the wording is incorrect or just plain wrong.

i will put what i wrote earlier in case you missed it.

So the boys will obviously be staying with us at our home a private address, but the guidelines point to you filling that in if you are are staying at public.......ie Hotel.
If i pick YES then it is saying fill it in.........
Cheers all.

The country to which you are applying does make a difference to the answers you receive as each country has it's own rules, procedures and forms etc.

The right answer to your question when applying to, for example, Australia could easily be the wrong answer when applying to the UK.

Also, by saying which country you are applying to and the type of visa being applied for then you are more likely to only get answers pertaining to that country and type of visa; rather than a whole load of answers some of which will be relevant to you, many not. As the first few responses you received show.

As they are applying to the UK for settlement then if the online form, which is still in beta testing, is asking how long they will be staying with you at your private address then I would simply put 'Indefinitely.'

The online form is not the best designed form ( as you can see). The questions seem to be ambiguous in places, and actually depend on how you read them. The mind processes things in different ways for different people.

But, I think the problem here is, you surely have to answer " yes" ( on behalf of the child) to the question " Is the address you are staying at a private address ?" You then get more questions in a sub-menu. It wants to know who the child is staying with :

Family name :

Given name :

Relationship :

Length of stay : This refers to the person the applicant is staying with, not to the applicant. If the sponsor ( with whom the applicant is going to stay) is British, then just put " since birth".
