i don't understand some posters . . . if you had to suffer from the Elephantitis Leg Disease, and all your government grants you for the rest of your life is peanuts , how would your life be like ? so instead of staying in his home country, he decided to put "adventure" an his flag and pull out of the "safe" harbour.

Most posters here are criticising a man who preys on those less well off than himself - he came to Thailand to beg.

Thai people were generous enough to believe his lies, and now he is back in Europe, still replying on the kind-heartedness of others around him.

You ask if anyone becomes a begger by choice---yes he did ! The condition could be treated and cured over time but he uses it as way to get sympathy and funds. First (that we know of) here in Bangkok then Pattaya where he used the funds given to him to pay for bar girls then after being deported back to Germany instead of getting care for the leg in his home country goes begging in Denmark where he can use the funds for drugs and prostitutes there.

Stupid statement , stereotyping and implying that must be some Thai bar girl working the clubs over there. Not only the Shin and LK Thai families have billions of baht. I know 3 Thai girls/ladies that have their own business, work for daddy's business or are well off. They travel around the world, I met 2 in USA and when I moved here we still keep in touch and they send me photos from Paris, Venice, Berlin , Hongkong , ect.

In NY and London the pimp industry keeps utterly useless CEOs and bankers very comfortable. Hard to say whether beggars or executives are a greater drain on productivity, although at least some beggars have monkeys who can play the tambourine to entertain passersby. .

Bankers and CEOs don't break into our cars, puke and defecate all over the street and generally conduct themselves properly in public. The homeless don't make the streets safer.

So perhaps the cure is to give these folks a Banking or CEO job.
