Thai/farang In The News Again

Featured Replies

I think it is totally bogus to use the two elements of this story as a commentary on Thailand.

The first part - domestic murder with money as motive. Extremely common in the west where the majority of murders are committed by a spouse, partner or family.

The second part - casual sex without the use of a condom. I would suggest that this is far rarer in Thailand than in the west. Look at this quote from story and major poll that came out on the BBC TODAY:

"Casual sex is rife among teenagers who are risking their health by refusing to use condoms, it has been claimed. According to a survey of 16 to 24-year-olds, some 30% lost their virginity before the age of consent and 38% failed to use protection with a new partner. Nearly half (44%) of those who took part in the poll, BareAll06, said they did not use condoms because the girl was on the pill".

To me it seems that adding "Thailand" to the mix is a rather sad way to freshen up an average story.
