madmonk888
what are the requirments for a 2nd year extension based on having 800k in the bank. Do you still need a letter from the bank and do they have to say the money came from abroad ? Any other docs needed , it will be a trip to Jomtien Thanks
Mario2008
Everything is the same as for your first extension, except that now the money in the bank must be there for at least 3 months instead of 2. Money does not have to come from abroad.
ubonjoe
Everything is the same except the money has to be in the bank for 3 months instead of 60 days. For extensions there is no requirement for proof the funds came form abroad. You may need to show proof of residence. Other than that only passport and departure card copies are needed. Thanks, how do you prove the money has been there ? a letter from the bank or copies of bank books ? I assume not all branches are used to foreigner requests proof of residence and of course the passport parts isn't a problem
Mario2008
Indeed bank letter plus updated bankbook. Best is to inuire a day or so before you need the letter. Some banks need a day to prepare the letter. There is a standed form the bank will use.
craigt3365
I just did this in Jomtien 2 weeks ago. They wanted a copy of every page of the bank book. Didn't need to do this last time...requirements change from day to day, officer to officer. 2 years ago was 2 copies of everything. Go figure. Also needed a copy of the original visa, passport photo page, departure card, last entry stamp, proof of residence, photo and bank letter. Bank letter is easy to get, normally done while you wait. Best to get the day before. If you arrive after lunch, you'll have to come back the next day to pickup your passport. FYI. The number system was broken. They'll give you a number, but not tell you this. Keep an eye on the numbers. If not moving for desk 6, just walk over and sit on the chairs against the wall. A helper will ask for your docs. a269652
sorry if wrong thread ... instead of renewing my marriage visa, can i change to a retirement visa (i checked & i do qualify) at the bangkok immigration offices?
Mario2008
You would change your visa but rather change the reason for your extension of stay, whcih is no problem. They might require your wife to join you, to make sure she understands that you are changing the reson of your extension.

FYI, on November 26 (Wednesday) the number system was still broken for desk #6, and the folks at the front desk still don't tell you that when they hand you the slip with your queue number.
