Wow, what vile human beings you all are, a person died and all you can do is spew crap out about Darwinism, I am sure all you angels have never been in a fight with a sibling or never been the cause of an accident, a person died here and there family member must be feeling terrible and blaming themselves.

Actually, not after the age of about 6. And then not while working at height on a building site.....

At least the articles along with your remarks help you reassure yourself of some self-esteem.

Well when people ask a really dumb question it does deserve a dumb answer.

Justifiying fighting with your own sibling on a building site in downtown bangkok to a level where your brother falls off the building, becsuse, "you know it happens everywhere", is fairly dumb.

When was the last time u had a fist fight with your brother? On a building site? Causing him to plunge to his death?

You are asking for anecdotal evidence as proof of your point? None of us had a fight with our brothers on a building site causing his death... so because such an incident happened in Thailand, it can only happen in Thailand? Gosh what incredible common sense you have... No wonder you feel the overwhelming urge to attack "stupid" questions.

So why don't you tell the whole forum exactly how this is uniquely Thai behaviour... Don't sugar coat it, now. If you want to attack the native intelligence of a whole race of people, you go right ahead and do it out in the open... If there is some anthropological study you can use to support your argument, then use that, by all means. But please... don't keep us in suspense any longer about what you really think and - assuming there is a reason - why you think it. We're all dying to know, oh wise one.

It would be dumb irrespective of where it happened.

Thing is, in many parts of the world there are rules, regs and safety procedures and management and discipline to help prevent stupid people doing stupid things.

People fall of buildings but less frequently in some parts of the world

The guy fell to his death and his brother ran away. What a vile creature He must be. The family members feeling bad, yes, however one particular member of the family must be feeling really bad. Or maybe not, as this vile creature left his sibling there to die. Not check on him, not render him assistance, not hold his hand as he slipped away saying sorry as he went. No.............. this vile human being ran away. Think on Pikeybkk. bah.gif

Only...because he was my brother...there were no guns or knives involved...

But I did throw mother's favorite son off the overpass...

I am only guessing of course but if the construction is being undertaken by a Thai company, as opposed to an international outfit, there is probably a lack of safety precautions in place which could have prevented the fall.

In Thailand they have signs on every construction site "SAFETY FIRST" to which is often added "Death Second".

The extension is being built by a well known Thai Company which does operate Internationally and on the BTS extension there are expats also involved in the supervision. However, if a couple of Thais start fighting up in the air there is little that could have been done even if there were substantial safety rails. According to reports he didn't fall, he was pushed,

There is a safety railing and netting around the elevated work sites. See attached pics.

You would need to be extraordinarily unlucky and totally incompetent (intoxicated/drugged) to fall-off accidentally, but after a blow - who knows?

You can't guard or legislate against brothers fighting at height and despite the best intentions and real attempts to keep booze / drugs of the sites, its nearly impossible. But I would say that it is extremely unlikely that the guy was intoxicated enough to fall off himself, its bloody hard work actually getting-up there. Also the guys up there fixing up the segments are usually pretty skilled at their jobs and work sober, easy to loose a hand/arm if you are not competent/ compose.

I don't expect he meant to tip his brother over, if that's what happened (or contribute in some other way to his fall) and will regret it forever, but I still hope the brown jobs put him away for fighting (with or without a kick to the head) they could have knocked somebody else off who went to separate them.

Actually the company you work for are responsible for making the work site safe for you to work. The problem in most of Asia is Big/foreign companies become the Main Contractor in JV with a local company the the work is subbed out to a Local contractor who will use an Agency to supply cheap Foreign and many times illegal Labour. These workers are normally untrained ,uneducated and poorly paid and if they get killed no one is going to come to Thailand from Laos,Bangladesh or Myanmar to sue the company , These people are poor and when one of them dies at work the company throw a couple of thousand US at the family to keep quiet. The process above involves lots of back handers and people looking the other way including immigration staff. The money that should be spent on proper training and employing safety officers is lining these people pockets. thats a fact

Ive worked on 4 major projects in Asia over the last 12 years and without fail someone gets killed every couple of months,

The" You are your own safety officer" has no bearing , companies are suppose to do Risk matrix's with idiots in mind. its a viscous circle because the labour will not complain as they'll lose their job

He shouldn't have been able to fall

Exactly, where were the safety harnesses or the safety railing?

The hub of substandard safety in the workplace.

Once being in construction, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw:

Guys welding/brazing with only moving their hands in the place of welders goggles.

Working in shorts and flip flops.

The transportation to and from the site with a laughable amount of workers rammed into the back of the truck.

Not in construction but it applies. Garbage truck workers riding on the top.

Ok I see it now had to view coconut article, I see where people said how could he fall? Well looks like it would either take being pushed or thrown over looks to be some type barrier there, but running from accident site might be a sign it wasn't accident. I'm sure the police will come up with some type of lie. RIP How other Guy on Motorbike is OK. Maybe a caution sign is in order watch for falling Thai's. Either Way of the outcome the other brother will have that haunt him a life time.

Ah but you must admit the Thai reporters bring out the worst and best in us with there headlines and failed grasp on the English language not to mention detail in reporting.

well what was he thinking.... fighting one-to-one with fists in Thailand??? even if it is your brother. He should have had at least 5 friends with clubs and machetes to keep him safe....
