takes 10 weeks or so and when they arrive are very beat up ,

Recommendation from the post office in my home country is 10cm packing material. So if less than 10cm and whats in the parcel is broken they don't accept responsibility even if its EMS.

About 10 years ago I was working with electronics, DHL and UPS both demanded at least 20cm packing material as the packages we were sending were quite expensive (up to several million US dollars worth of equipment in one box)

And about DHL deliver everything intact... I requested a transcript from my Uni (needed originals delivered in sealed envelope from the Uni for a job). So my Uni sent the envelope packed in a protective outer envelope... It took 14 days to arrive from the states and it looked like the envelope had been runned over by a car or two, it had even holes right true it! Luckily enough the company accepted the transcript even though it looked like hell...

I can see the logic from Thai Post, they get paid twice for boxes they sell, then they still steal anything you do not send via EMS requiring a signature.

I would estimate that between 50-60% of all parcels / post that has been sent to me from outside of Thailand actually makes it. the other 40-50% just gets magic'ed away into the ether by the Thai Post.

I have to admit though, this is not Thai bashing, the UK post office workers are another bunch of thieving scum. (I actually had a distant family member who was employed by the Royal Mail 40 years ago that thought it was OK to steal premium bonds and other peoples parcels.

I also worked as a sub contractor for BRS (Roadline) way back when and their regular drivers were worse than Fagin! Everyone of their drivers knew which "Brown Envelopes" contained the porn mags and regularly used to open them and probably sit and toss themselves off before dropping off the already opened package.

Scum everywhere, they knew people were probably too embarrassed to complain.

Everything I order or send these days requires a signature or has to be warranteed via Pay Pal or such like as it is only getting worse.

Maybe it is only me. but if I had that dismal a record with

the mail I would use Fed ex or UPS. It might cost more but I would get it or they

would receive it.

If it is unimportant go ahead and play the hit and miss game.

Canada and the States also are not always that dependable.

My wife sent an opal necklace from Australia to her sister in Thailand by registered post and insured, it never arrived. Australia post tracked it to the Bangkok mail centre and after that it vanished. At least it was insured.

I sent 2 boxes from the UK using DHL. Massive problems with one, not only did it take 7 weeks to arrive but someone had removed all the extra packing I had put in to protect the fragile items. I had to actually pick it up at the local post office. The staff there were amused at the distressed appearance of the box, which had obviously been damaged. On opening the box I found even metal objects badly bashed, all pottery smashed and wooden items broken. I don't know if the damage caused by DHL or the Post Office but as someone had removed all the protective packing I doubt double boxing would have made any difference at all.

No I didn't think so!!!

If items sent to me are not registered - although a few were registered - they will not make it through "enemy ( thieving bastards) lines."

I firmly believe this country could benefit it mail delivery could be corruption/ thievery free.

I sent a document EMS (600 baht) in mid October from here to Oz. Call last night saying it had be returned and sitting at the airport .. What do you want us to do? Send it again!! This message came month after I sent it! A phone call to Oz this morning to try and explain why it hadn't arrived by the due date!

Yes... yet another example of SHIT service/reliability/govt behavior etc. Is there any integrity/morality in Land of Scams?

OK - 42 postings complaining of parcels not getting through so:

I have sent about 5 parcels a fortnight to my grandchildren in the UK over the past 4 or 5 years - well over 200 parcels. All sent small package air mail either in a box or a padded envelope.

Everyone has been delivered. None have been charged duty. Never a complaint about any damage.

Often the delivery time is 5 days, after 10 days my wife is complaining bitterly!

Just to balance things up a bit.

I tried to send something to America, but when it arrived there was a hole in the envelope and the contents missing. You never really know who took it.....but you can still guess.

note: well, it was 100 diamonds with a big stamp on the front that said, "Diamonds, don't steal, worth millions." lol, nah, the contents was worth just a few hundred baht.

Makes perfect sense.. sell 2 boxes to the customer, then you can steal the inner box contents, reseal the outer box and deliver it then claim there was nothing else in it.

Years ago I had documents sent to me from the USA. Thai customs wanted to charge me 2000 baht duty but a phone call later reduced it to 1000 Baht if the money was deposited in a "special bank account" since the papers were not really important I told them to toss them in the bin I'm not paying anything. A few days later my package was delivered.

Couple years ago I was asked to pay something along 2500 baht for a customers catalog, it was couple hundred pages, but I still paid for it as I needed it for business.

Yesterday I received a box of books 13kg that I ordered from overseas, surprisingly I did not have to pay any tax. Seems like the customs are more lenient nowadays?

I will say that the things we sell on Ebay are expensive but worthless to 99.9% of the worlds population and really no sale value in Thailand

and we send them small packet airmail ,registered mail .

but many do not get past BKK airport as far as tracking , and when you ask Thai Post they do not know where the package is !

Maybe the Army need to be Postman too when the have time.......
