webfact Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 Thailand eyes becoming regional trade centreBy Digital ContentBANGKOK, Nov 21 -- The Thai government is amending laws aimed at persuading foreign businesses to set up their regional operating headquarters in Thailand, a move which would enable the kingdom to become a regional trading centre like Singapore, Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula said on Friday.He told participants attending a seminar that the amending law would be forwarded to the cabinet for its approval early next year.It would help boost Thailand’s gross domestic product to between 5-6 per cent in the next two years and would not cause a bubble economy in the country.The law would also help increase the role of Thailand’s economy with neighbouring countries and is also designed to encourage Thai businesses to invest internationally, said Mr Pridiyathorn.Development in Thailand in the past resulted from private investment which has now reached its saturated point due to the shortage of labour and land for investment, causing an investment slowdown since 2010 and eventually affecting the country’s GDP which grew between 3-4 per cent only, he said.Therefore, there is a need for amending the tax system to facilitate foreign businesses to set up regional operating headquarters in Thailand and to also encourage Thai businesses to invest in abroad, Mr Pridiyathorn said.The government will invest in major infrastructure projects to cater to the “digital economy,” such as establishing a massive broadband to assist businesses, he added. Not much democracy in Middle East, but I don't see that stopping Western governments from bending over backwards for them. Maybe you don't understand international business. Keeping outside Yingluck's Burberry's outfits (her Thai ones sucked) (oh, midget Plop insists I mention his King Naresuan outfit too...), Chalerm's Bentleys (he's getting purple now, shouting they are not his but...), the other clown's airline (he's hitting the ground now repeating 'it is not mine'), and other luxury toys. Concentrate on the real 'smart' stuff for you: the Thaksi(astro)nomics rice scam, the water management scam, the tablets for all scam, the first car scam, the ..., as a fan, you must remember all the list, of what has been costing well over a Trillion to the Thais... Its the Thai-way. Every second day, they come out with a statement that completly contradicts, what they said a few days before. Its standard by now. Christie Paul Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 Actually to be fair and to avoid transparently nonsensical and racially prejudiced stereotypes, Thailand has done very well over the last few decades. It has gone from a primitive rural feudal system to a fairly attractive tourist, manufacturing and trading nation. But it has not yet matured and so from time to time the system wobbles. Powerful ancient political rivalries, faux nationalism, cronyism and an ill informed and uneducated population provide tremendous hurdles and all too often prohibit intelligent decision making, especially when powerful political forces go head to head. What we are seeing now is little to do with so called "Thainess" or some racial inferiority. We are seeing a system under stress and because of powerful political conflicting forces that result in the inability of leadership to launch intelligent solutions. Consequently, all interested parties must now groan under a slew of initiatives that range from the malevolent to the just plain farcical. This problem will probably be resolved politically, after a good long stretch of economic collapse. The country will bounce back, but in the mean time a lot of people, especially the poor, the middle class and small to medium sized foreign investors will be hammered, unless they have the where with all and the capability to diversify away from what promises to be an epic train wreck. The coup has been devastating in some tourist industry sectors and has been estimated to cost the thai economy 700 billion loss over two years. You must believe these daily unbelievable press releases that seems more like comedy than reality. The daily spin seems to be believed by many people though.
