Red Stamp On Uk Passport Visa Exemption

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been in Thailand for about 3 weeks in June, went back to UK for a month, came back to Thailand in August, went to Philippines for about 2 weeks after the 30 days were up, came back after, went to Hong Kong for 2 days after the 30 days again. All on visa exemption...

Now, my current visa exemption is due to expire on 16th December...my plan was to go to Jomtien immigration sometime this/next week and get a 30 day extension, however, looking at my passport last night, I noticed the usual blue date stamp I get was in red this time.

I believe I need a flight ticket out of Thailand within the 30 day extension period, however, I'm worried that the red stamp might cause my extension to get refused meaning my ticket would be wasted and I'd need to purchase a new one.

I have the funds required to support myself here in Thailand.

Does anyone know if there's the possibility of my extension getting refused?

I'm not working here - it's 100% a holiday, however, I don't have a plan as to how long to stay here. I will travel to Hong Kong again in January after the 30 day extension if successful and plan to come back again after 1-2 weeks possibly for a final visa exemption + 30 day extension, then go back to work in UK. Nothing's set in stone - I could go home earlier or later.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

They just used a different color ink pad when they stamped you in. I think if I looked in my old passport I might find some that are red.

I would not worry about getting your extension. You do not need to show a ticket out of the country.

You should consider getting a tourist visa instead of relying of visa exempt entries.

You may be pushing the limit by going out for just a couple of days after staying for the full 30 days or the extension you are going to apply for.

Thanks ubonjoe - I was worried that the 2-3 day trip in Hong Kong triggered the red colour stamp as I've read in many places about this red stamp warning.

I will try going to immigration tomorrow and see what happens.

Be aware that in Jomtien you may be asked Bt 3,000 instead of 1,900 as prescribed.

Is this due to misinformation or just corruption?

Judge yourself

Thanks, I'll be aware of this when I go later today.

I refuse to pay more than the correct fee, so I'll just take a holiday elsewhere if they insist.

Just went to immigration and the woman told me I needed to show proof of onward travel within the extended 30 days otherwise i'd only get 7 days extension for the 1900 baht.

Of course, the other option was to pay more, but she refused to elaborate how much when asked, twice, which i found strange.

Anyway, she said I had until the very last day of my current visa exemption stamp to go back to immigration to show the onward travel and get the 30 day stamp so I've still got time to decide what to do.
