BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission has been looking into the assets of former Central Investigation Bureau commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat Chayapan before and after their mandatory declaration to determine whether he has intentionally concealed his assets.

NACC chairman Parnthep Klanarongran said today that if it was found out that the ex-CIB was unusually rich, the NACC would proceed with legal proceedings against him.

But as for the malfeasance charge, he said that the NACC would have to wait for the result of police investigation.

Police are due to open the last of three safes seized from Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat’s residence to find out what were contained inside it.

BANGKOK, Dec 1 -- Thai authorities are searching for more evidence connected with Pol Lt Gen Pongpat Chayapan's cartel.

The former Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commissioner and two more cartel suspects are expected to turn themselves in today.

Forensic police planned to open three safes seized from Pol Lt Gen Pongpat’s homes in the Chaeng Watthana area on Friday. The authorities believed they would find valuables in the safes.

Besides, officials will search houses linked to Gen Pongpat's network as he is suspected of receiving bribes from gambling dens, police seeking promotions and oil smugglers.

This afternoon Sgt Nathakorn Yasri and Sgt Theerapong Chorjampee suspected of receiving bribes connected with Pol Lt Gen Pongpat were expected to surrender at the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

Only one suspect--identified as Witthaya Theskhunthos--remains at large.

Fine Arts Department Director-General Borvornvate Rungrujee and his staff began examining an estimated 20,000 artifacts seized from Pol Lt Gen Pongpat’s network at the 1st Infantry Regiment.

They will sort and evaluate the artifacts in two months.

Meanwhile, Navy commander-in-chief Adm Kraisorn Chansuwanit said navy personnel had nothing to do with any bribery relating to oil smugglers in the South. (MCOT online news)

Are these people really human or primate. So what now, complete the probe and then declare their isn't enough evidence to make a decision. How much of the loot will be diverted to get a negative result. Pathetic little cretins.

They are definately different animals compared to most of us!!

Most of us would settle for a good normal life with a little nestegg for unforeseen events!!

I will never understand the extreme greed of some people!!

Anyone with half a brain knows anything they uncover about this one, the rest are guilty of. Wish I thought they were going to get serious about this stuff.

I was killing time at Central World Bangkok last month and visited the row of shops where they sell the high end audio gear. I stopped in a shop and was looking at McIntosh amps and 1,000,000 baht speakers. I said something to the salesman about how he must sell to captains of industry etc. He said "yes, and a lot of Military and Police officers too. LOL.

Is that the safes? Ruddy heck, safe as <deleted> when bent over in front of a kateoy.

Is that also supposed to be gold?

The news keeps saying the police are going to 'open' the safes, after they've had them for nearly a week. Looks to me like they were already opened, but maybe they will be empty, as the days are spent concocting a story as to why they were empty, to cover up how the contents disappeard up to the very top!

With free discussion of this topic completely banned (as admin made clear over the weekend) is it really worthwhile putting up stories on the issue?

Totally understand TV position of wanting to stay within the law but to have a discussion forum on a topic where you can`t discuss what`s going on seems a little silly.

If you can't trust yourself to post comments that don't break the rules, then don't post anything. whistling.gif

Wish they'd probe Police Chief Somyot's 1/3 billlion household wealth. Hypocrites!

well, that would be interesting

but all indications are that this is not really about cleaning up corruption.

I agree, joining the dots is pretty revealing stuff.

Major changes ahead.

The boss of the boss has done some distancing too.. allegedly

Much more at stake here than this money or this former cop.

That's usually why people have safes to keep valuables in. Duhhh! Good to know the authorities are on top of their game.
