Morch
Well I am sure the hostages where hoping to see a special forces team enter the room and rescue them. Even if they fail to save you, it was a better death than the beheading that was sure to come. The terrorists release no one now, talk of release is just another torture technique. It like a cat releasing the mouse from its claws, only to snatch the hope of escaping back again. Terrorists do release hostages, although this is always tricky, to say the least. The issue is more to do with the choice between accepting demands or denying them (with the possibility of a rescue operation). http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/20/isis-releases-hostages-turkish-consulate-mosul http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/us-hostage-peter-theo-curtis-freed-in-syria/2014/08/24/aaa0d07d-37ac-407a-8753-23574383b4cf_story.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/10414038/French-hostages-return-home-from-Niger-after-Al-Qaeda-release.html http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2014/04/21/225086_analysts-ransom-helps-militant.html?rh=1 http://www.businessinsider.com/isiss-history-of-hostage-taking-2014-
Morch
I believe there was recently a rescue attempt that was successful, but one of the main hostages for the raid wasn't there. If "main" meant "USA citizen", then yes... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_hostage_rescue_operations_in_Yemen
