Well yeah most places in bkk bars ect were not selling alcohol, as i took note earlier in the day the 711 had the doors tied up, and when i left the gym and headed to dinner on 33 i mistakenly asked for a beer with dinner but then changed to a water as it was refused. I was quite happy to have an alcohol free day and an early night. After some shopping for basics i noticed that of the 2000 baht id taked out with me in the morining, i still had 1200 biggrin.png

They must have missed the police statement.

In Bangkok, however, a spokesman for the Royal Thai Police confirmed that he had spoken with the Police Strategy Unit which had decided there would be no booze ban on December 5, nor even any “request” to shops, bars, restaurants and wholesalers not to sell alcohol on the day.

No, not "enuff" ( i prefer enough ) said!

Do you even know what "photo shopped" is?

If you can prove that you do, I would be happy to make you a wager that it is not photoshopped!

I took the photo myself and it is genuine.

Thanks for the bogus input!

Dude, they are pulling your leg and are having fun with your story.

Look up 'humor' ;-)

Yes, it's a photo of some beer bottles in a box. So what does that prove" I could take a few bottles of beer out of my fridge, shove them in a box and take a photo.

And quite aside from that, this isn't international espionage. Even if the store owner put some beer in a booze box, do you think some satellite was hovering overhead taking photos or clandestine agents were lurking in darkened alleyways and suddenly put on alert because someone had a box that had once held whisky or whatever?

Would a box labeled Mama brand Tom Yum instant noodles been the proper 007 method.

There are plenty of humorous things that happen in Thailand and elsewhere (the bread & butter of You Tube), but this isn't one of them. The only person who came off seeming silly was the one who felt the need to have photographic evidence of a non-event.

What's all the fuss? People attacking on this topic, The OP story was nice, hearty and funny. What's even more funny is the farangs complaining about people not following or respecting the rules of law, LOL. ''TIT''

Very disrespectful. I hope that both of them are sentenced to lengthy jail terms. I have to question whether the man was really Thai and not a foreigner himself. I really can't imagine a real Thai showing that level of disrespect on such an important day.

Surely you intend this to be tongue in cheek? If not, I would have to conclude that you know nothing about this country and its culture.

Out in the villages, where there are few police, these no alcohol days don't even exist.

Funny story - 5555

Never understood the sort of desperation sometimes exhibited by expats at the shocking prospect of a day without alcohol. Gasp!

I don't drink myself, but my guests often do - thus the few times I was in Thailand during dry holidays, I made sure to stock up my fridge with plenty of beers, and Bacardi breezers, so that there'd be no hassle on the dry days.

Are some people really that non-efficacious when it comes to planning a day or two ahead? 7-11, two cases of beers, two cases of breezers, done.

Many farangs here are desperately shocked by a lot of things because of small minds and the baggage they drag along with them from wherever they came from. For example, they are shocked to the core when they see a swastika, which was a Hindu religious symbol long before it was usurped by Hitler. Buddhism had Hindi roots. Speaking of Hitler, these farangs are shocked to the core when they see Hitler Fried Chicken in Bangkok, which, by the way when I tried it, served up a pretty decent plate. They are shocked to the core and protest loudly when they see Thai school girls dressed in Nazi Germany uniforms ()really, folks, who cares?). The then the big one, horror of horrors, Black Man brand floor mops.

The swastika, as Hindu symbolism speaks for itself. Why would school girls wear nazi Germany uniforms? the assignment was to pick a uniform from history and make it for a parade. If one can lay aside their emotions for just a moment, the various uniforms of the Nazi German regime were some of the most impressive looking in history. Couple that with the fact that Thais do not study and know nothing of history, and it is all pretty innocent. Beyond that, Thailand was allied with Nazi Germany during WWII (in it's deal with Imperial Japan).

And Black Man Mops (and wasn't there an "offensive" racially charged donut?)? They had plenty of slavery here in the past, but not a lot of Black Africans. The irrational collective guilt carried by the descendants of whites who impressed Black Africans into slavery simply doesn't exist here. Yet these overzealous over-sensitive expats accuse the Thais of being "insensitive." Insensitive about what?

These farangs seem to forget that they are immersed in a different culture in a different country from their own. They think that their beliefs are so high and morally superior that they should be respected by all around the world. Of course these folks are small minded, arrogant, wrong, and, at the end of the day, more bigoted that any Thai.

Hear, hear!

Of course, as I recall, the school holding the nazi parade was a catholic school with some Farang management - which I thought funny, but overall, as you pointed out, essentially innocent.

no, there was no ban. the ops story was moot.

If you had read the previous posts you would be aware that, yes, there was no ban this year, but in previous years there has been.

Many in Thailad were not aware that the ban had been lifted this year, myself included.

This may have been well known in the expat / tourist frequented areas this year, but in most of the country it was not known.

In my little "city" most places were not selling alcohol and bars were closed.

My family took me out to dinner for father's day and we were told at the restaurant that no alcohol could be served on that day.

Traditionally, alcohol is not sold on the big birthday, being uninformed of the change, many Thai people followled tradition.

Jai yen!

You may die early with such a negative attitude.

I got a kick out of what happened so, I thought it would be nice to share the story.

O.K.?

I'm sorry if you are one of those TV guys who only like stories that bash and defame, and strive to put a negative spin on even a humorous post!

A non event?

Yes, but one I enjoyed.

And yes, I did open the box and stand the bottles up when I got home before photographing them.

A photo of a closed box would not have made the point.

I guess I am guilty of "posing" the photo.

But "photoshopped"?

Maybe you need to Google "photoshop" and learn what it really is.

It's been around for years now

.Again, you really should relax and enjoy life a little more and not look so hard to find things to be critical of.

Choose your battles.

There are some good ones out there worth fighting if you are that conformational.

Enough said now?
