36 Buddhist novices in Chiang Mai treated for food poisoning

CHIANG MAI: -- Medical staffs of the Nakhon Ping Hospital rushed to treat 36 novices at a temple in Chiang Mai's Mae Rim district Sunday morning after they suffered from diarrhoea.

Five of them were rushed from the hospital. The novices suffered from food poisoning after they drank juice and yogurt Saturday evening.

"...they drank juice and yogurt..."

Not a good idea together, for starters... wai2.gifwai.gif

Something amiss with juice and yougurt together? Does that combo create some kind of stomach bomb with explosive diarrhoea? If those are the only 2 suspects in the case, i suggest looking no further than lousy water making up the juice drink.

Fruit juice and yogurt go well together. They were obviously tainted. Probably from spoilage or exposure to raw meat maybe.

Much of this stuff that the temples have, were donations by the local people.. No one knows how long these items have been sitting around on shelves. Even bottles of juice can go bad if sitting in the heat for months at a time and the yogurt? Not surprised. coffee1.gif

I m suprised.Yogurt is often prescribed to cure diarrhoea. It fights the bad bacteria in the stomach. The Monks should have checked the "sell by" date.
