CDC: Amnesty law will not be included in new charter

BANGKOK, 10 December 2014 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) says it will not include any amnesty-related content in the permanent constitution.

As the spokesperson of the CDC, Gen Lertrat Ratanavanich said the committee had completed the deliberation of most reports and summaries that were submitted by its subcommittees, adding that the only two subjects yet to be reviewed were the inspection of the use of power by the state and independent organizations and the election of political leaders, members of parliament, and the cabinet.

According to him, the two matters will be discussed this Thursday and Friday, after which the CDC will collect suggestions from the National Reform Council and start drafting the content of the new charter after New Year.

Gen Lertrat went on to affirm that the charter rewrite committee will not have an amnesty law included in the new constitution while admitting that it will propose setting up a new standing committee which will be in charge of promoting reconciliation and strengthening related works in Thailand.
