BANGKOK, Dec 11 -- Thailand's Commerce Ministry last week brought together about 160 traders and importers from Southeast Asian nations as well as China, Japan, India and Australia to meet about 220 Thai exporters to promote their business matching.

Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya said that the arrival of the foreign operators and importers followed the past and successful business matching effort involving Thai exporters and key importers from North America, Latin America, Africa, Europe, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States from Dec 1 to 3.

The meetings resulted in year-long orders of 41 importers for Thai products worth US$11.81 million or Bt367 million from 116 Thai manufacturers and exporters.

Gen Chatchai said that the latest business matching campaign involved representatives of about 160 department stores, retail stores and supermarkets as well as importers from Southeast Asian nations, China, Japan, India and Australia and about 220 Thai exporters.

The foreign businesspeople inspected potential enterprises and markets of important products such as the Bobae and Worachak markets.

Their inspection trips are aimed at building their confidence in the quality of Thai products and services that have potential in their countries.

Products being promoted include foods, ready-to-eat foods, rice, household appliances, gifts and fashion products.

In 2015 the Commerce Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism & Sports will bring large, medium- and small-scale operators to conduct roadshows in other countries including those in Southeast Asia and Asia.

The ministries plan 4-5 roadshows annually and will present Thai products that suit the demand in those countries. The roadshow project could start next month, Gen Chatchai said.

The commerce minister noted that Thai products with high potential included foods, rice, products made from rice, cosmetics, vitamins, services, Thai traditional massage and Muay Thai. (MCOT online news)
