Do you think this is a little underhanded?

Where's the con, the dealer supplied the mats that were specified ("Admittedly, the extras only said "rubber floor mats" not Genuine")?

"The other thing they did was put tint film on the windscreen, which to me is a big no-no, but the shade isn't particularly dark, so maybe it will be OK."

You have an issue with something that is ok? Weird.

I have an issue with window tint on a windscreen, which is illegal in just about every civilised country in the world, not to mention dangerous. When a new car dealer says they are going to supply rubber mats for your NEW vehicle, you take it for granted that the mats will fit, if you think my expectations are too high then you must be a car salesman's wet dream.

You bought a vehicle in Thailand and it is subject only to Thai regulations so bringing up other countries laws about window tints is fatuous.

There's quite a few car salesman's wet dreams on this thread, not just me.

Sad to say once again, TiT. Sadly one must ALWAYS be on guard for the escape clause, and ironically, if they hadn't wasted the money on the incorrect and dangerous windshield tint they could have afforded the proper floor mats.

Thankyou, there are some ill-informed people that seem to think front window tint is OK, and how dare I complain about it.

"...but the shade isn't particularly dark, so maybe it will be OK."

Make up your mind, is it ok or not?

Here's the deal. You didn't actually negotiate anything special - all you managed was to get their standard best deal, which is a pure number. In the case of the outgoing Triton right now, that's 120K Baht.

How you take that 120K Baht is up to you, really. Some of it you take as "free" insurance, some you take as "free" accessories, some you take as cash off the price. There's no real magic in it.

Now, IIRC, the deal you ended up negotiating was 100K off the price, and probably about 14K in insurance, That left 6K for accessories, which it sounds like they gave you. If you want more expensive accessories now, they just can't do it.

I wasn't suggesting I got the deal of the century, but I do expect them to provide the "suitable" extras they promised, whether genuine or aftermarket.

Seems you still haven't shaken those Western expectations smile.png The sooner you do, the happier you'll be. I mean you're here getting flustered about 150 baht mats tongue.png

Does the word "principle" mean anything to you? Are you suggesting the secret to happiness is just bending over and grabbing my ankles every time someone tries to rip me off?

No-one tried to rip you off.

Get the Crap off the Screen.

I agree, it's gotta go. Not only that the film is covered in lettering and numbers that I've been told I have to remove with nail polish remover.

It's not covered with lettering and numbers, there are some on the film and removing them with a quick wipe of solvent is hardly a big hardship surely?

i dont know if a new car in Thailand that doesn't come with film on the windscreen.

its kind of necessary in this climate though i wouldnt accept anything over 25% (Front) as it makes driving at night hell.

Not necessary in any climate, clearly a comment coming from someone who has seldom if ever lived in a hot climate, Euro transplant I'm guessing.. I live in a climate as hot and even hotter as there at times and I don't have ANY tinting and survive just fine, I will be getting some next year but it isn't "necessary" it's convenient and more comfortable. And of course if you tell the dealer no windshield tinting, that's what you'll get.

"And of course if you tell the dealer no windshield tinting, that's what you'll get.

As you will do here also, if you bother to specify that.

Giddyup it's your fault you got the wrong mats, forget it and get some nice aftermarket ones.

Gets up your nose does it that a simple phone call to the right person got me what I was supposed to get in the first place?

Even simpler would have been had you raised the issue with them prior to accepting delivery of the car ;)

You did actually check the car when you picked it up right?

The response from the dealer would have been the same whether I'd raised the matter at the time of delivery or when I got home. No point in getting into any more discussions as to what I should or should not have done, the matter has already been resolved to my satisfaction. You'll have to find another post to nit-pick.

Yeah I think you should have done like that fake Thai police lady did and bash it in the street with a sledge hammer, that'll show em.. Or maybe like this...

I was looking for the video of the fake Thai police woman bashing her car and found this instead a little off topic but I doubt anyone will mind terribly. Umm a woman in uniform and a few of them are really getting into it with some nice hip shaking, enjoy..

Judging by some of the "advice" here, it looks like there are a few people who really don't know how to complain properly.

The OP got a result, by taking the right track.

Yeah, funny that. Like they got a bit pissed off that I got a good result.
