Gingivitis - Dr. / Dentist Recommendation ?

Featured Replies

Anybody with a name for a specialist in treatment of gingivitis? There seem to be some newer treatment techniques available, so we need a specialist and not just a regular dentist. Looked up BPH, but could not find a specific Dr. for this specialty. Thank you kindly. MS>

Having suffered from this all my life I wonder what new treatment techniques you are referring to?

No dentist anywhere in the world has ever suggested anything to me other than frequent root planing/deep cleaning, and twice-daily brushing, flossing and mouthwash.

Hi Kitten Kong

A friend told me about ozone treatment and surgical ways. Trying to find out. Thanks for your post and have a good weekend. MS>

Hydrogen peroxide gargles can help....

A good start to treat gingivitis would be to get a water jet. You will be supriced to see how much gunk a water jet removes even if you have brushed and flossed before using it.

From WaterPik's website:

If you have gingivitis, you can normally restore gum health through improved oral hygiene and teeth cleaning. Adding a Waterpik® Water Flosser to your daily routine is one of the fastest and most effective ways to treat gingivitis. If you have gingivitis, you can normally restore gum health through improved oral hygiene and teeth cleaning. Have seen WaterPik at Asia Pharmacy, next to Big-C entrance in North Pattaya, they are probably available at some other pharmacies as well.

I use peroxide as one of my mouthwashes. Several dentists told me to vary the brand/type of mouthwash every day, in order to stop the bacteria building up immunity to a particular one.

Thank you for the good advise. I have been using a WaterPik for years, flossing, mouthwash. But I know I brush too hard / often. Maybe I am using it wrongly. Will have to read up on it. Thank you for any further advise. Also scheduled with BPH. You all have a nice weekend. MS>

I've used an electric brush for years. I dont think you can do it wrongly with these.

(Dont ask me how they work that silly price out: I paid GPB 25 for mine, but it was on offer.)

Dropping over this thread while looking for dentists in the Pattay area, so decided to add my 5 cents for what it is worth:

I had severe periodontitis which needed treatment last year, but the same procedures would be true for gingivitis. Deep cleaning, flossing, mouthwash and brushing do ONLY slow down the problems, but NEVER solve or even less regress the issues you have.

"New technique" that was mentioned is what was done for me: To solve the issues, you must really open the gum around the teeth and clean out the bacteria at the root of the teeth. Once the "pockets" between gun and teeth are to big / deep, no standard cleaning can do that. The only thing that can be done is to open up the gum around the teeth and clean out the bacteria all the way.

Previously (until few years ago), the only solution was that the periodontitis specialist took the scalpel, cut the cum around all your problem area, used what ever chemicals they use for killing the bacteria and then stiched the gum together and few weeks later, you could get rid of the sutures...

Nowadays, my specialist (in Switzerland that is) use LASER technology. He actually "burns" around each tooth and the gum gets "removed" from the tooth down to the root of the tooth / problem. After the treatment, the gum will kind of "glue" back to the tooth and the problem is solved - as long as you continue with the enhanced cleaning that actually everybody should do anyway (regular dental cleansing by a specialist besided brushing / flossing etc.).

My specialist did my whole mouth in 2 treaments - left side up and down in 3 hours and one month later the right side. With a sleeping pill, I did not realize a thing of the treatment. 3 days pain killer (and antibiotics of course for 1 week), after that the only side effect was enhanced sensitivity for warmth / cold, since the root of the teeth were exposed until the gum was glued back. Result after one year since the start of the treatment is 95% success and cost overall was 5'500 Swiss Franc.

So Laser technology means higher cost, but much faster recovery, no cut gum and sutures and the pain for me was acceptable at the end. Advantage is much less bleading, since the laser will "weld" the blood vessels together while cutting the gum from your teeth and at the same time kill the bacteria responsible for your problems.

Not sure whether you find that technology in Thailand, but worth asking around.
