Uber restriction in Phuket lifted

BANGKOK, Thailand (eTN) - Taxis in Phuket are among the worst in Thailand as they are mostly run by local mafias which extort horrendous fares to both visitors and locals. Uber application was launched last October in a rather discreet manner, serving mostly the Patong area.

Education ministry to offer vocational training as NY presents for Thais

BANGKOK, 15 December 2014 (NNT) - The Ministry of Education will give New Year presents for Thais by launching new projects aimed at educating and developing skills of Thai people.


Education Minister Admiral Narong Phiphatthanasai said the five projects of the ministry were parts of the government’s policy to return happiness to the people. The first project seeks to expand long distance learning to small schools and those in remote areas. The second project includes vocational training for the general public and the third one is free service by vocational students to repair equipment, tools and home appliances. The fourth project bring vocational students to participate in social responsibility activities for communities and the last one is short training to develop people’s vocational skills and improve the quality of their lives.

The government has asked the ministry to adhere to its policies on social inequality, unity and development of grassroots people.

Thai Foreign Ministry warns Thais to avoid travel to Sydney

Ko Kret selected to be community model for universal design

BANGKOK, 15 December 2014 (NNT) - The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has launched the project “Universal Design Community Model” in Ko Kret, Nonthaburi province. Aimed at facilitating the disabled, the project is one of the 20 other projects that the ministry will launch as New Year presents for Thais.


Minister of Social Development and Human Security Pol.Gen. Adul Saengsingkaeo on Monday presided over the opening ceremony of the “Universal Design Community Model” project, a collaboration between the ministry, the Faculty of Architecture; Chulalongkorn University and the Organization of the Disabled in Ko Kret, a famous tourist site in Nonthaburi province. The project will provide facilities for the disabled who live inside and outside Ko Kret so that they can travel and do activities conveniently and safely.

The ministry hopes that the project will set an example for other communities across the country in terms of universal design. The project will begin in January 2015 and end in the next six months.

King’s general condition improves

BANGKOK: -- The Bureau of the Royal Household issued Announcement No12 Monday night stating that the general condition of His Majesty the King is improving.

The statement said the King can eat more and sleep well and has regained his physical strength.

The team of doctors have closely monitored the symptom from the inflammation of the large intestine and discovered that the King has no more fever, no pain in the stomach and the heart beat is also normal.

Ultra-sound check of the abdomen also detected no inflammation of any organ and the blood check also showed nothing unusual.

The doctors have advised that the anti-biotic treatment be temporarily halted after the King’s general condition is back to normal and his health is gradually improving.
