Don Mueang toll fees and underground train fares to go up December 22 and Jan 1 respectively



BANGKOK: -- Don Mueang Tollway has announced new toll fees to become effective as of December 22 until December 21, 2019.

The new toll fees are as follows: Outbound route from Din Daeng plaza to Don Mueang – from 60 to 70 baht for four-wheel vehicles; from 90 to 100 baht for vehicles more than four wheels; from Don Mueang to the memorial statue – 25 to 30 baht for four wheelers and from 35 to 40 baht for vehicles with more than four wheels.

Inbound route from memorial statue to Din Daeng – 85 to 100 baht for four wheelers and from 125 to 140 baht for vehicles with more than four wheels; from Don Meuang to Din Daeng, 60 to70 baht for four wheelers and 90 to 100 baht for vehicles with more wheels.

Meanwhile, underground train fares will also be adjusted by 1-2 baht for each additional station as of January 1. The new fare rates will range from 16-42 baht.

As for the city bus services, the Transport Ministry will decide next year whether the fares will go up or not.

Bangkok Mass Transit Authority which operates the city bus services has demanded bus fares to be adjusted from 8 to 10 baht for hot bus, from 12-24 baht to 14-26 baht for airconditioned bus.

Crazy, the tollway from Don Mueang into the center is then more expensive then the taxi fare.

Everything is going up, BUT the price of petrol is coming

down very slowly.

No, its part of the concession those companies have, a raise every four or five years.

When the Foreign JV was operating the Don Muang Tollway the Government blocked increase in tollway charges that would have enabled the foreign JV to get a return on their investment. Also they were not able to get certain monies owed for construction until they impounded a certain person's airliner. Once they were forced to sell to Thais, the price has increased astronomically without interference from the Government.

No, its part of the concession those companies have, a raise every four or five years.

Yes bad deal for the Thai people at that time, great deal for the people with the concession because their investment has been paid back now they only rack in the profits. (plus some maintenance)

This is whats really needed, since abhisit up the price for don muang expressway, nobody use it anymore.

Maybe they do thai-style compensate the losses with higher rates now. Haha

Not to be picky, the calculation is:-

Principal = 85b

Increase = 15b

percentage increase is: increase / principal * 100

or

15 divided by 85 = 0.1765 * 100 = 17.65%

Which is, as you said, a good 15%

Its true that most / all of the tollways are built and managed by other companies (there are private/public companies involved) but they have a revenue sharing system with the Department of Highway / EXAT which is state own and requires the transport ministers approval before any fare can increase, both are in the same bed together.

If they are increasing the length of the tollway, then I suppose it makes sense for them to increase the toll, if not then they should not have. Same with the fare hike in 2013 which doubled from 25 baht to 50 baht at most tolls, there were no changes to the expressways. A few places dropped from 45/35 baht in the past decade down to 25 baht only to have it jump to 50 baht which doesn't make sense.

the investment is paid back years ago, now let's raise the price to make the stockholders HAPPY
