BANGKOK: -- THAEN Khun Phaendin Awards - initiated by the Nation Multimedia Group and running for eight years - were presented to 77 people representing each province at an event held yesterday at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.

Among the recipients of the prestigious awards were four young people and six agencies for charity work. Altogether a total of 494 people were recognised for their good deeds, public service and charitable contributions.

NMG chairman Suthichai Yoon, who presented the awards, said it was his and the NMG's honour to praise the award winners and promote their contribution to society.

More worthy people were waiting to be selected and recognised through these Thaen Khun Phaendin Awards in future events.

Senator and Professor Emeritus Privy Councillor Prof Emeritus Dr Kasem Wattanachai, a member of the selection committee nominating and approving the awardees, said all had one thing in common - they had faith in their efforts based on their experience and expertise in their own fields.

"All of you will be models of all the virtues, and will set good examples for future generations to further develop the country," he said during a speech at yesterday's event.

Phornthip Khlongkhlaew from Lampang - recognised as the Prototype Teacher in the Heart - said doing good things often started with trivial acts, such as picking up a piece of garbage and putting it in the trash bin.

She is recognised for initiating a scheme in which volunteers read from dharma books to terminally ill cancer patients at Mae Tha hospital in the province.

I hope these included taxi drivers who returned forgotten items to their passengers.

An additional national honourary award should have been made to Khun Monk Suthep...rolleyes.gif

...and Khun General Prayuthw00t.gif

Only 76 provinces in Thailand

Only 76 provinces in Thailand

That is pathetic, you were desperately looking for something negative to say about a report full of positivity and that was the best you could do. Perhaps one of those provinces had two recipients?
