I was on that for several months now. Tried this, tried that. The freaking 5555 was still smiling at me like that:

All programs and I mean all that are available didn't fix it.

The solution was as easy as falling in love at a Pattaya beer bar, when single and still a virgin.

Please go to your Control Panel first. Click on "Internet options." Go to security and restricted sites. Click on "Sites."

Copy a copy of your browser with the 5555 website running. Shut it down. Then add it to "Restricted Sites."

When it pops up again, please don't get angry. Just do it again. Not too long and it will be gone. My eight months nightmare. ( Joking)-

Download Malwarebytes and then run a full system scan. Delete anything it finds: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/

Also, stop using Internet Explorer and switch to Firefox: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/desktop/

After installing Firefox, install this add-on: Adblock Plus and subscribe to Malware Domains which will filter those out.

If you wish to keep using Internet Explorer, read this Microsoft advice: http://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/security/pc-security/browser-hijacking.aspx

Last but not least, be careful when installing 'free software'. It often comes bundled with junk software like browser hijackers which will redirect your home page and your searches if you don't pay attention when installing an application. In that respect, never choose the "Recommended" option before clicking "Next" and always checkmark the "Custom" option. That way, you'll see what's going to be installed along with your app.

I get so sick and tired of the mac/Windows arguments, usually carried out by users who are barely qualified to switch on a lightbulb. I use all 3 operating systems. My mac is a good all-rounder that is fast and reliable. My Windows machine in un-surpassable when it comes to games, audio/video editing and the availability of software for almost any purpose, just can't be beat. My Linux machine, has security and reliability built in, This machine of mine is used for all my office work and my web-server, You could literally drop a bomb on it and it would still function.

So you see, all machines/operating systems have their own strengths and are designed for their own particular purposes. All you Windows (fools), Mac (fools) and Linux (fools) need to check and use these systems before you proclaim to know anything about them.

Nuff said.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a long post. I'm using Google and Torch. Had Malwarebytes pro, ( but also various other software, but it didn't see shit.

When I was asking him what system he'd have he said that he'd run Windows Firefox.

But he claims to understand computers and tells others how to fix their machines.

I am currently Windows 7, and the one and only time I got a virus was when I had a free copy of McAfee that came with the computer.

with some care, and a few security measure Windows is as safe as any O/S.
Most antivirus scanners detect less than 35% of current threats. Some big names less than 25%.

Yes Unix (Linux runs on top of Unix) is the least secure OS. Most web servers were based on Unix but have now been over taken by other OS because of lack of security.

Linux users don't suffer with virus' and malware so much because the hackers are after making money so they target the biggest user group, Windows users. As Apple users have increased in recent years they too are starting to be targeted.

As stated before each OS has its pros and cons. In the course of my work I use them all.

Ubuntu (Linux) is ideal for charity PCs as its licence free and with Open Office loaded, also licence free, gets the kids used to a Windows style environment.

MS Windows is the worldwide choice for business' and has kept me in a job for 20+ years 'nuf said

Apple's Mac OS (the first ever windows based GUI) was always a bespoke piece of kit favoured by Publishers, Printers and Advertising companies. This was due to the fact that Apple's desktop publishing software was by far the best available in the 1980's but I'm now seeing more main stream companies introducing cross platform OS, so I've had to brush up on my Mac skills.

Nope. There's a minority that believes a Mac wouldn't have any problems like that. Complete rubbish and made in China.

BTW, a friend of mine gave me my memory stick back after copying some of my movies on his Mac. Was definitely messed up with Apple related infections that were difficult to get rid off.

Had to show the guy his viruses, as he didn't believe me. A machine is only as good as its user.

(Linux runs on top of Unix) - not true.. Linux is a UNIX like OS.. It is completely independent of UNIX and doesn't run "on top" of it - However Apple's OS X does run on top of some UNIX sub-systems.

And UNIX\Linux still powers over 67% of webservers. The rest are mainly powered by Windows Servers.

The worst virus I ever got was an email asking me to confirm a subscription to a news website. CNN. I had just signed up for daily updates and a week later got a spam email saying "click here" to view your subscription.

Took me 2 days to recover from that one.
