PHUKET: -- The Central Festival underpass will be closed for two nights starting tonight (December 18), for repairs to be made to the ceiling of the tunnel.

Samak Luadwonghad, Director of Phuket Highways Office told The Phuket News, “The cement ceiling of the tunnel will be refixed and it could take up to two nights to fix the problem.”

The underpass will, however, continue to be open in the daytime, from 6am to 8.30pm

During the nighttime, he said, “The surface road linking the bypass to Chao Fa West Rd will be open for use but it may not be a smooth [ride].”

He added “I would suggest that all road users to avoid [the Central area] and use alternative roads such as Phra Phuket Kaew Rd or Klong Bangyai Rd. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

I have seen many new road constructions here that have terrible bumps at either end, the underpass is no exception. Yet these small bumpy sections are like a no mans land where no one will take responsibility to make it smooth yet they can slow the traffic quite considerably.
