Politician in murder-suicide in Phuket hotel
Eakkapop Thongtub

PHUKET: -- A Trang politician and his girlfriend were found dead in a the Baan Ton Sai Garden Resort in Patong yesterday afternoon (December 18).

Police believe that Prasit Intaro, 43, a member of the Tambon Wongmaprang council, first strangled Yuwadee Sriket, 29, with a belt, then hanged himself with a shirt from a curtain rail.

Called to the scene, police were confronted with the sight of Ms Yuwadee, dead and naked in the bed, and Mr Prasit, wearing only underwear, hanging from the curtain rail. Both had been dead at least 12 hours.

They learned that Ms Yuwadee had been working as a cashier in a Patong hotel, and they found a note from Mr Prasit to his mother, asking for her forgiveness and requesting that she look after his children.

Questioning staff, officers learned that Mr Prasit and Ms Yuwadee were frequent guests at the hotel.

Mr Prasit arrived by motorbike just before 1am yesterday and checked in. When, later in the day, a maid knocked on the door wanting to clean the room, there was no answer.

The maid peeked through the window of the room and saw Ms Yuwadee on the bed, apparently dead.

Police believe that Mr Prasit, who had a wife and children in Trang, was carrying on an affair with Ms Yuwadee.

Hotel staff said they had heard the couple arguing a couple of months earlier, and investigators believe, from what the staff heard, that Ms Yuwadee may have told Mr Prasit she wanted to break off the relationship to leave her free to go out with “a foreigner”.

The bodies were taken to Patong Hospital for forensic examination.

Soooooo many cases of a "jilted" Thai man end up this way. Something seriously wrong with the mental processes here.

Call it the culture of having 'mia noi'

Sad that the man's jealousy was more powerful than the will to let his mistress go and he could live for his children. There was an earlier post about another policeman shooting his ex-gf who was 3 months pregnant before shooting himself - Why must a broken heart mean revenge and murder/suicide?

A few Thai female friends I know said they don't like Thai guys because they have 'small minds'. I know, 'a few' does not constitute the majority but based on the regularity of such incidents (jealous Thai guys killing their exes, their exes' partners or both) happening, I guess there might be some truths in my friends' claims after all. Perhaps this stems from the 'saving face' culture.

Your thinking is incorrect. To rephrase your post, please choose one of the following:

a. Every country has [good/benevolent/upstanding/mentally healthy] people, and [bad/selfish/conniving/psycho] people.

In all respects, every nation and every culture is equivalent.

b. We personally weren't involved in this situation, so we simply cannot comment.

Insight relating to situations in which we had no direct involvement, can never be accurate.

c. A Thai man who committed a murder-suicide after being jilted is a jilted suicide-murderer who happens to be Thai.

This has nothing to do with Thailand.

You can verify the validity of any of these positions, and learn more about the thinking underpinning them, by researching previous TV posts.

No problem, you're welcome!

Better he killed himself than the foreigner who probably knows nothing about it all. Shame he had to kill the lady first. The mia noi culture is strange, it's supposed to be some fun right? Then people get all bent out of shape when it starts to go pear shaped. France (as an example) among other countries has a culture of the "mistress" and they seem to work it well and not go on mini-killing sprees when one wants to leave.. Just saying

Ahhh....the "Fiendish Ferang" of course it was ALL his fault, unless of course there happens to be a convenient Burmese, lurking around in the Wood Pile.

Note that it is the 'farang's fault' somehow. At least that part is consistent.

Why are you so tragically desperate to plaY that card?

First things first, he should have left the girl alone and only kill himself. Secondly, that was one skinny slut boy if he could hang himself on a curtain rail without his weight snapping it in half.

And 1 very good quality shirt to use as a rope
