Options for international business phone lines?

Featured Replies

I like everything about the place I'm staying at in Asoke, except one thing: the Internet limitations are unacceptable for business quality voice calls. (True Internet, 5 down/1 up DSL line only, no option for cable, no option for VDSL. I'm not sharing; this is a private line and the best they can do).

I need a phone line to make and receive calls to the United States. There's a big catch: the caller ID has to be a local or toll-free number in the US. (Using DTAC "004 Service Anytime Anywhere" shows a +66 number)

I've actually heard that DTAC, or one of the other Thai telephone companies, sells USA phone numbers, is that true? If so that would be a surprisingly perfect fit for my needs.

Why are you restricted to True 5 down/1 up connection?

IMHO, if that is what the condo/hotel has installed, you would be cheaper to invest in a 3G/4G package with one of the mobile companies and use Skype on the mobile device.

Or, get a faster internet package installed to suit your needs. Landlines can be expensive.

You might want to investigate a SIP phone service. Provides a US phone number either on your smartphone or optional physical phone. Once configured, it will work anywhere there is an internet connection. The physical phone needs an ethernet connection.

works well even with DSL speeds.

I was able to solve the issue by setting up a DISA enabled number through an SIP phone service, thanks.

To those asking about the plan restriction, I am in an older apartment and I guess it's not worth it for them to install the lines for VDSL level service and above.

Correct this is how I got a local Dutch telephone number here in Thailand. Its connected to my smartphone. It works like a charm, i pay a little bit of money each month for this service plus an answering service. It is of course important that you have good internet. The quality is not always as good.
