Man shot with stun gun dies at US border crossing

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 40-year-old U.S. citizen died after a border inspector shot him with a stun gun at the nation's busiest crossing, authorities said Thursday.

San Diego police said the man jumped over a counter and attacked an inspector after being taken to a separate area for questioning at the San Ysidro port of entry connecting San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. A records check showed he was wanted on a felony charge.

In a statement, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said the man attacked two inspectors, and it described him as "combative." It said officers found heroin during a body search.

The man attempted to enter the U.S. on foot Wednesday afternoon, according to the agency.

Authorities attempted to resuscitate the man, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said the man would not be identified until his family was notified.

Four customs officers suffered injuries and were hospitalized. Police called the injuries moderate; the agency said they were minor.

About 50,000 motorists and 25,000 pedestrians enter the country daily at San Ysidro.

Wanted on felony charges

Carrying heroin.

Going to the one place where they're guaranteed to demand ID and have a computer to check it against.

Another senseless gun death -- NOT.

It sounds like they might need to turn down the voltage a little.

Well, if they can take down guys like this one, I say turn up the voltage. Electric can be a very useful thing, when used to clean up the planet. LOL.

In 2008 a van full of no documented Mexicans tried to cross the San Diego's border checking point after being stoped by the immigration officer....The van was shooted by the officers 50 mts ahead. Most occupant died at the scene....

The press was stuned about the "stupidity" of the impossible attent...Myself too..I was living in Tijuana/San Diego at that time. Did not makes sense.

Months later an US immigration officer was jailed. Was found that he was brived, to be at that crossing point at that time to let the van to pass freely... like he did many times before....but that time something went wrong..

That kind of news...again...only was commented in Mexican newspapers and TV stations..not in the US......

Not a full history of events...but people will only remember and believe what was OK to disclose to keep the FACE.

Sounds familiar?.

The media bias really shows in the headline. There was nothing in the story that even hinted at anything done wrong by the Border Agents.

The headline should have read "Drug smuggler dies after attacking border inspectors"

The headline was a fairly unambiguous, objective statement of what happened and the article made it clear that he was carry drugs, had previous convictions and attacked the officers.

It could have said "US Citizen shot dead at border," which would have been no less accurate, but would have carried some implied bias as well.

In fact that was the headline at Fox News ( the hub of finger pointing when it comes to alleged media bias)

Maybe not the smartest of plans.

I am guessing he was white? I can't help but thinking that If he was African American, the headlines would be focusing on the riots caused by this shooting.

I would guess he was Hispanic, but the news reporting is not really saying his ethnicity.
