That is the funny part!!

Before the inspection 6 months ago the warehouse contained 130.000 sacks, 91.000 missing then and 100.000 now!!

So todays balance is -61.000 sacks, so the sacks you see in the OP, are only your imagination!!

Mate, I don't deny that the whole rice-pledging scheme was a disaster and the people behind it should in some way be held responsible!!

A lot of warehouse owners, rice millers, transporters and custom-officers made a lot of money. I doubt very much, they all are honorary members of the PTP.

It might be time for the military to focus a bit more on this company and go through all of Phoenix Agritechs' warehouses with a fine toothed comb. One warehouse was showing irregularities 6 months ago with 91 000 sacks missing and now this one as well. If 2 have shown irregularities there are bound to be more.

Would be interesting to know how many warehouses the owner of this company, Pongpas Dungduangsasitorn, actually owns. Obviously would not just be one as he is on the rice exporters database list being a major rice exporter for Thailand.

Lets hope Prongpas is investigated and held to account if he is in fact responsible.

Explanation will be forthcoming: the "hole" at the center was so that air could circulate and keep the stocks from rotting. Manager and assistant sold the other rice, and due to long weekend forgot to put the money in government account. It was just an oversight or mistake anyone could have done (given the right incentives....).

This very same warehouse was in BP 140627 reported to contain 39.000 sacks of rice after an inspection 26th of June.

And now more than 100.000 sacks are missing??

Because I worked in agribusiness and none of this surprises me one bit, and I have quite a good insight into the tricks that people could play and the responses.

Put it like this, if a warehouse I rented lost 90,000 sacks and then I told the world I was inspecting it, and it then turned out I missed the fact that another god knows him.many were missing, I would be professionally for the high jump.

These warehouses are as bent as they come and yet the junta tells 100k tonnes missing. In 19mn, across the country absolutely impossible.

We have now received an update on the missing rice.

It is alleged by senior masterminds of the influential and powerful kind that the rice simply misunderstood where to lie around at and it is now believed that it went to an inactive post. It is extremely difficult to pinpoint the location of the post due to it's inactive nature, active posts are much easier to locate. The government has declined NASA's offer for assistance, arguing that NASA could never understand Thai rice.

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) revealed Friday that more than 100,000 sacks of rice were missing from the government rice stockpiles kept at a private company in Pathum Thani province.

Could very well be possible not all "private company warehouses" were checked. Could be many more of the same out there.

The rice was stored there by the Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF), which stores pledged rice at many rented warehouse across Thailand.

The rice here at this particular warehouse comprised White Rice 5% and White Broken Rice A1 Super Grade.

The estimated loss is about Baht 130 million. Each rice sacks weighs 100.7 KG.

That there was theft was already discovered in October 2013, the extent however only became clear later,

in June 2014, when there was a thorough check by the military.

The company that owns the warehouse rents the whole premises to another third party company, that in turn rents one of

the warehouses (there are 7) to an entrepreneur, who in turn rents the warehouse space to MOF.

This entrepreneur and 2 persons of that third party company have already been arrested under (obvious) suspicion of the theft.

Its the same company.

Are you really saying that these Inspector Clouseaus didn't bother having found one building with a huge hole inside the stacks think to themselves that the other buildings might be a bit of a priority.

And bear in mind it is these guys samples that are being used to claim that 10% of the crop is mouldy and 70% has to be written down by grade.

It must be a big handbag to carry 10,848 tonnes and at 15,000 baht per ton that comes to 162,720,000 baht.

Now I am sure that you can afford to lose that much money and not worry about it and that it is not much in the overall losses, but why should you care as it wasn't your money anyway. Don't forget the storage and transportation costs as well.

Of course in your mind it was stolen, mislaid or simply a paperwork error as Nuttawuts teams who took a week or 10 days to inventory the whole stock said there was nothing wrong, rotten or missing. It is a well known fact that the PTP government ministers NEVER told lies.

If this is all that is lost it will be a miracle, but when one stack has been found dodgy in a warehouse and they can't check tat setbof buildings properly that is a very poor effort.

As I said, the bugs have eaten more than this. Anything up to 0.05% a year, 0.1% for breakage is not uncommon. Just turning it to dust. Gone.

At 15,000 baht per ton plus storage and transportation, just turned to dust and gone.

I am SO glad that you are not allowed, like me, to participate in spending the taxpayers money that just turns to dust and si gone.

If whoever dreamt this scheme up, which was Thaksin, had any idea what happens to rice in poor storage conditions they still wouldn't care.

If you recall, the Government lost 500 luxury cars from a storage warehouse.

.02% of rice is very believable.

Actually the "government" didn't lose 500 cars, customs and excise did and they are "civil servants" and yes it is a big deal on the custom duties alone. Start with the guy in charge of the warehouse and charge him with losing the lot. Make him pat the value of the cars himself and if he can't then jail him and seize all his assets..
