August 13, 200619 yr With the opening of the new airport I wondered if anyone knows if there will be transit sleep rooms and showers like the Louis Tavern Rooms they have at the current Intl Don Muang terminal. I know there is to be a 5* sofitel but the transit rooms and shower facilities have always been such a plus and so convienent for the traveler in transit. I always thought that Bangkok was steps ahead of our US airports in that respoect. Edited August 13, 200619 yr by coconut wireless
August 13, 200619 yr In a word, yes. Link to article Monday, July 17, 2006 Hotel chief sees room for growth Miracle Hotel owner spending Bt300 million on 'day rooms', snack bars and lounges at new airport Aswin Ingkakun, the owner of the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel and Louis' Tavern Hotel, is spending Bt300 million on facilities at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, including hotel rooms, shops, waiting lounges and a hair salon. Aswin is spending about Bt100 million to open a "day-room" hotel, called The Miracle by Louis' Tavern, which will be located inside the passenger terminal. The hotel will have 80 rooms and is scheduled to open when the airport begins operating at the end of September. Aswin said the hotel would provide the same services as hotels outside the airport and its room rate would be Bt1,000 for six hours. August 13, 200619 yr Current rack rates for airside dayrooms at Don Muang International terminal(s): TARIFF For 1 or 2 Persons 4 Hours 1,400 Baht 6 Hours 2,100 Baht 8 Hours 2,800 Baht 10 Hours 3,500 Baht 12 Hours 4,200 Baht http://www.miraclegrandhotel.com/dayroom.html Believe rates above are negotiable downwards, also believe prices quoted for Suvarnabhumi are suspect. My guess is the 1,000 THB quoted for the new airport's dayrooms are probably for 4 hours, exclusive of VAT.

Every time I go there they are sold out. 100% occupancy. What does that tell you?

August 13, 200619 yr Thank you for the nudge, Gabe. So it’s more like a leg over, not the legs up. This explains the pricing. --------------- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
August 13, 200619 yr Current rack rates for airside dayrooms at Don Muang International terminal(s)...That’s a lot of money just to put your legs up for a few hours and have shower, isn’t it?-------------- Maestro The rooms are crap and yes they're a real ripoff at the rates they're charging. 24 hours would be 8,400 THB. But given the options they are a good deal for some. Example, you arrive in BKK after a long flight and are very tired and have a 5-hour layover before a short flight elsewhere. You desperately need to take a shower and get a few hours of sleep. Paying 1,400 THB is a good deal considering that if you left the airport and stayed at the Amari next to the airport fot that same length of time it would cost you minimum 6,000 - 8,000 THB and plus you'd have to pay 500 THB departure tax and waste probably at least an hour waiting to go out through immigration and then getting back in, thus cutting your sleeping time to only 3 hours. Cheaper hotels are available outside than the Amari but they require additional time to get to by taxi or shuttle bus and they're still much more expensive than the dayrooms. They charge such high prices and are sold out because there's a big demand for these rooms by people who don't want the hassle and expense of leaving the airport to find better accomodations. I consider them a good deal for 4 hours given the limited choices you have. At 8 hours it's probably a wash as to whether to go out and get a hotel or stay there. You could definitely do it cheaper outside for that long of time but it wouldn't be as convenient. At more than 8 hours it's a no-brainer : get yourself out of the airport and get a decent room that will be much cheaper and comfortable.
September 5, 200718 yr Good afternoon, I have been looking for the facilities like this. I am uncertain whether I can find them at the Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are similar facilities that operate in Narita airport, which the travelers can sleep or take showers. I will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 1:00 a.m. after 22 hours in the air. I am trying to catch a flight to Hat Yai around 8:00 a.m. This type of facility will be perfect for me to recouperate the long flights. Anyone has information regarding the short rest or shower facilities, I will be very much appreciated. I believe they should be operating on a 24x7 basis. Thank you for your time.
September 5, 200718 yr Tamrak, Here is the website for the Louis Tavern Day Rooms, which has still not been updated for Suvarnabhumi. Here is a thread with a lot more info.
