Tiger Airways launches new promotion

SINGAPORE: -- Low-cost Tiger Airways is offering promotional fares starting at 9.98 Singapore dollars (6.35 US dollars) to celebrate hitting the 1.5-million passenger mark, the carrier said on Sunday.

From Monday through August 20, the Singapore Airlines-backed Tiger is offering cut-rate fares to Padang, Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh and Darwin.

The 9.98-Singapore-dollar fare is for the Singapore-Hat Yai and Singapore-Padang routes, the airline's statement said. Travel is for the month of November.

Tiger hit the 1.5 million passenger mark five months after carrying its first millionth passenger in March.

"We are well on our way to hitting our second million passenger mark before the end of the year," said Rosalynn Tay, Tiger's chief commercial and marketing officer.

Tiger serves seven countries including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia.

The carrier is expected to take delivery of three new Airbus A320 aircraft at the end of this year, boosting its fleet to nine. Another three A320s are expected in 2007.

The A320s acquired in April serve flights between Singapore and Guanzhou, Haikou and Shenzhen in China.
