rickirs
Ironically, the majority of the increase in Japan's tourism has been and will continue to be from upscale Chinese from the Mainland and Taiwan. Thailand has to settle for the economy-driven Chinese. Japan will be hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics that will further sustain Japan as the #1 attraction in Asia. Thailand with its Phuket Beach Volleyball event is just not in the same league.
wellred
There's enough Japs over there as it is. Just look at what they have done to prices in places like Bacarrat or Rainbow 4. Even Crazy House is ruined now. :-(

tonbridgebrit
Do the Thais prefer the Chinese or the Japanese ? Do they prefer fahlang from America/Europe or Russians ?It might be the case that they love the Japanese more than any other group. They certainly seem to spend more money than those non-spending Chinese, and they're not as rude. And they seem to be far less involved in the violant and drunken disputes we see in Pattaya, it's normally Australians,Brits and other Europeans who do that kind of thing. But how about this. If Japan had of won World War Two, how would they be behaving today ? Would we be seeing lots of Japanese men, turning up all over the place in the Far East, getting drunk, and treating the locals as peasants, with a sense of superiority and granduer ?? fish fingers
The Japanese are the best tourists. Polite, honest, clean and high spenders. Especially the ones on the top floor of Baccara
rfukata
I wouldn't be to optimistic about the increase in Jpax (Japanese paxes) to Thailand for 2015. As year to date (Oct.2014) JTM figures for outbound travel in S/E asia, only Vietnam has about a 10% increase for the Jpax, Thailand is down nearly 19% YTD. Other Jpax destination such as HK,Taiwan, Malaysia,Hawaii are up a trickle whilst Guam, Saipan,Korea, China are down. One 2015 impact factor will depend on the Japanese yen, as stated above by another TV member.
