Answer is NO. (sorry)

While the rough translations reads: ...a one-year non-immigrant visa issued by the Immigration Department.

Customs want to see:

(2.1) The letter from the Immigration Department certifying that the nonresidents shall be granted an annual temporary stay in Thailand; or

(2.2) The work permit from the Department of Labor to work in Thailand for at least one year.

In other words, you first would have to apply for extention of stay up to one year and have a workpermit.

BTW, even people retiring and arriving on a non-imm O for retirment do not get duty-/tax - free import.

We are not saying you can not bring anything but what you do bring will be subject to customs duty and that the amount is not something that can be estimated with any degree of accuracy so most people do not bother to send anything more than personal items.

Sorry, no, Mamasun.

The main thing customs wants to see is the permission to extent the stay and the work permit.

If you come to retire:

Note : Nonresidents entering into the Kingdom with a non-immigrant visa "code O" who wish to retire in Thailand or accompany spouses of Thai residents are not qualified for

The O-A is as well isued for retirement, but, as said, retirement does not permit duty-/tax free.

Returning Thais have a better chance. I.e. if you are married and all documents in the Thai - wife's name...but than only one piece of electr./electronics etc. as everything in wife's name.

Otherwise, a worst case scenario would involve

a) 'discussion' with the Customs officers and payment of 'tax- and duty'. Expect a few 1000 Baht upto 40,000, depending on size of the container, declared or estimated value.

'b) If W/P or Thai-returning resident, still expect some payment of 'tax and duty' to avoid that all single items will be inspected.

The customs officers love to inspect removal goods if they cannot expect any payment (err... duty and tax) and know from experience, there might be more than shown on the packing lists. (electronics, alcohol etc)

There are a couple of companies in BKK doing these kind of clearances, but nobody can guarantee duty-and tax-free or exact amount. PM me in duetsch or schwyzerduetsch if you have more questions.

Ah, and NO CAR or motorbike.

Brought in container from UK on 'O' multi entry visa. Duty costs were 10% of the shipping cost ie £3000 = £300. Asian Tigers were agents. Container was still sealed on arrival at home. Presume we might have been lucky!
