Trang to complete rubber farmers compensation payment in Jan

TRANG, 31 December 2014 (NNT) – Almost 97 percent of registered rubber farmers in Trang have already received their compensation payments, while the province is set to complete the whole payment to the rest of the farmers within January 2015.

The governor of Trang Somsak Parisuttho Hemtanont, and the Director Trang Branch of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) presided over the 1,000 baht per person compensation payment ceremony for rubber farmers in the 6 villages of the province.

Rubber farmers from the Na Bin La sub-district have received their compensation in this ceremony, which was witnessed by government officials in the local, district, and provincial levels.

29,806 rubber farmers in Trang province are eligible for the compensation payment, with a total of 276,077,500 baht. While the BAAC has been pushing to deliver the payments as fast as possible without fail.

Until now, the BAAC Trang Branch has already delivered 265,814,000 baht of money to 28,699 farmers, or 96.24% of the eligible farmers in the province, which is the highest ratio in the nation.

This kind of compensation in addition to government subsidy price supports for both low-income rubber and rice farmers is needed for their economic well-bing. Unfortunately, it also benefits the wealthy farmers and does nothing for the rest of poverty-level people in the nation. The Junta was clearly pushed into making such compensation in exchange for farmer's political nuetrality. Unless the Junta takes the initiative to develop a nationwide poverty assisted program, it will face more threats of political conflict that will threaten it own survival.
