A Phnom Penh Municipal Court judge sentenced a karaoke singer to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of 20 million riel (about $5,000) for providing a 14-year-old girl to a man for sex.

Ou Reaskmey, a 36-year-old a singer for Chhlong Den Karaoke Productions, was arrested at her Por Sen Chey district house by anti-trafficking police in January.

“The court decided to sentence her to seven years in prison after being tried for procuring child prostitution, in violation of the law on suppression of human trafficking,” presiding judge Kor Vandy said yesterday.

Reaksmey was arrested on a complaint from the victim’s parents, after their daughter disappeared for about two days, said Keo Thea, Phnom Penh’s chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police.

The victim, who had known Reaksmey since 2013, was lured to the rental house of a wealthy Khmer-American for sex, Thea explained. Reaksmey had promised the victim that the established performer would promote her singing career and make her famous.
