Change extension of stay to non-immigrant O visa (family) after expiration of Non B

Hi, apologies if I get some of the terminology wrong.

My Non B for employment will expire at the end of April. I want to change to a Non-immigrant O extension of stay after the expiration, on the basis of marriage to a Thai.

Can I follow the same procedure as detailed here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/697299-worry-free-non-o-visa-savannakhet/ ?

Therefore, I wish to apply for the multiple entry non-o based upon marriage at the Savannakhet consulate. I understand that I will have to do border runs every 90 days.

Or, will I have extra hurdles to jump through as I want to change the reason for extension of stay?

Advice here will be appreciated.

You will get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet that would give you 90 entries for a year. You will have to leave the country every 90 days to get a new entry.

If you can meet the financial requirements of 400k baht in the bank for 60 day or proof of 40k baht income you could change to an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai without leaving the country for a visa.

Ubonjoe, thank you for your quick reply. So, It looks like I can change extension class without problems. Cheers.

One other question. The question the may sound a bit daft I guess, but I am trying to be get some clarity of procedures here. Once my Non B has expired, will I have to show any evidence of cancelled employment or my Non B extension of stay being cancelled? Cheers.

If you want to change the reason for your extension you will need a letter stating your employment has ended on the date you want to apply for the extension to cancel your current extension.

You could also apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife on that date if you needed time to get ready to apply for the one year extension or go out for a non-o visa.

Recent attempts by some to get a Multiple entry Non Immigrant Dependant visa, (in a Thai Embassy or Consulate) based on marriage to a Thai have not been successful although you may get a 90 day visa. This will allow you to extend to a one year stay on return to Thailand, usually after 60 days. To support and ensure success take an up to date Kor Ror 2, a copy of the Kor Ror 3, a copy of your wife's ID and evidence of your Thai address e.g. lease, rental agreement, Tabian Baan. Good Luck

Can back up your statement by stating where people were unable to get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage.

There have been no recent report of anybody being denied one in Savannakhet Laos as long as they had the required documents.

Penang also does them on regular basis when financial proof is shown.
