I would appreciate advice on how to do this.

I understand the 800k in the bank for 60 days before conversion.

Regarding timing, do you wait until after the final day of employment and work permit is cancelled to make this change. I had previously heard that you had 7 days to leave country after WP cancelled? Does this mean the conversion has to be made in that 7 day window, or could the conversion be done earlier? Also can dependents such as foreign wife and children all be done at the same time? Am worried about rushing about to do this all within 7 day period?

There is no 7 days after work permit cancellation. On the date your extension of stay is canceled you can apply for a 7 day extension.

You will need a letter from your employer stating your job has ended to cancel your extension on the date indicated on the letter. You can go a couple of days before that date to cancel your extension and apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement. You will need the 800k baht in the bank for 60 days on the date you apply.

After you get your extension stamp your dependents can apply for their extension. It could be done on the same day.

You should check with your local immigration office to find out their policy on doing the change. Some offices have reported as not doing them and forcing the person wanting the extension to leave the country for a new visa.

Thanks Ubonjoe....is there a special form that needs to filled out for this, and can it be found online.

Also is it required to have an official declared residence, and what proof of residency is requested(recent utility bill, etc?)

Thank you again

Ubonjoe,

Is the same TM7 form required for each dependent family member, or is there a separate from for this?

Thanks

The only form you need is the TM7 application form with a 4cm X 6cm photo attached.

Download and print 2 sided. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/tm7.pdf or http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/tm7.doc

Proof of residence may be needed at some offices. Normally a rental agreement with a copy of the owners house book and ID card attached is the asked for.
