New Women In Thailand...

Featured Replies

How many 'foreign'/ international women - no matter their age - arrive in Thailand, under a kaleidoscope of experience and circumstance - end up running for the hills, in a short time, due to lack of professional support?

Is the support there that we do not know about? How do we access it?

Most professionals I know - do not stay long and those that do, cling to distinct social groups due to lack of national support groups. Many regional postings are completely without support....

I'm not asking for myself - I have been here a while - but I want my sisters to stick around also!! :o

This is NOT a Bangkok post - many international women live outside BKK!

It’s not just foreign women but the thai expats who had lived and educated oversea also. For my wife - a thai expat who had been educated with professional job oversea, coming home after 25 yr for the first time to live is a bit scary for her. This is the main reason why my wife didn’t want to come back to Thailand. I guess she have changed and became more westernized in free thinking, and the family support in Thailand is next to none in term of free speech within the family and also in many ways of problems solving skill.

So, where do we go from here... I think intellectual women need a definitive group we can relate to... an interesting discussion for sure.... :o:D:D

Khall, you are definitely on to something here. I have the exact same experience, especially in regards to the regional posting. What am I doing? I'm going home, and I'll regroup from there.

Definetly something to talk about.

Half the people I meet just rave about how wonderful bangkok is, and the other half are all leaving within a couple of weeks to months after I have met them.

Care to define " professional support".

Hi,

I am not a woman, but my mother was here with me for about one year and three monmths, and she would have loved a place with other women from overseas to speak with. I have a suggestion.

Create a site www.overseaswomen.com In this site you could have Thailand, India, Saudi, UAE, and the list goes on. From this site, you could arrange stories, meeting dates, and the like.

Or, simply use this forum to find a restaurant every Wednesday to meet.

Good luck

Please don't go. I, for one, shall miss you terribly. :o
