Tourism Thailand: 2015 Discover Thainess

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has scheduled the grand opening celebration of the “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign for 14 January, 2015, with a range of spectacular events including a colourful parade and extravagant performances to be held in the heart of Bangkok.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “We would like to invite all tourists and tourism industry stakeholders as well as members of the public to take part in the range of extravagant celebrations marking the launch of the “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign. We have scheduled a host of events that are specially designed to showcase “Thainess”, or the distinct character of the Thai people and our unique culture.”

The grand opening celebration of the “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign is scheduled to take place on 14 January, from 18.00 hrs. in front of the Siam Discovery Centre. Among the various activities, at 17.00 hrs. the spectacular parade will start from the National Stadium at the Pathumwan Intersection and wind its colourful way along Rama I Road to the Ratchaprasong Intersection before turning into Ratchadamri Road and conclude at Lumpini Park.

The “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign incorporates the current Thai government’s 12 national core values, among which are the promotion and preservation of Thai traditions and culture. The aim is to showcase the hospitable character of the Thai people and the many cultural assets of Thailand that make it a unique tourist destination.

The grand opening celebration of the “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign is to be held in conjunction with the Thailand Tourism Festival 2015 that will take place during 14-18 January, 2015, at Lumpini Park.

The international arrivals in 2015 is expected to rise by 13 percent to 28 million and revenue from foreign visitors by 16 percent to 1.35 trillion Baht.

The only time Thailand wants to know the Falang is when they are parting with their money , now that it is going else where this promo, Thainess , sounds like Deity on speed.

This is the Govs chance to show everyone how good Thailand really is. To show the tourists the 12 core values that Thai people have forgotten. But be careful going to and coming from the event because then you will see the real Thai and see how the Thai really treat foreigners. Thainess at its best is just a show. Bold faced lie to your face because it is not culture anymore.

I'll come watch as long as everyone agrees to leave their ping pong bombs and grenades at home.

Lets hope these tourists only experience 'Thainess' lite, and not the full strength version.

Foreigners have already "discovered" the new version of Thainess and culture, hence the low tourist numbers. Go back a decade or more and they might have had something to be proud of, but this current version of Thai "culture" with regards to foreigners is nothing short of disdain. You reap what you sow.

IMHO 'Discover Thainess' is a hollow invitation because to do so you'd have to live here so you wouldn't be a tourist and as a challenge, although interesting sociologically, is unrewarding because the more you discover the more you realise how apart from you, they (the Thais) are.

Does TAT think that tourists really want to look behind the smiles?

Unfortunately the people who really experienced 'Thainess' are no longer with us,

and due to Thainess their departure will never really be investigated properly.

Surely tthe best way to get for the general to get his message across is to have a 200 foot high gold statue made of himself. Then, make sure there are 100 metre high pictues of the general every 50 metres or so throughout Thailand. If the economy then fails, blame the foreigners and start a war with Cambodia. That should give him a bit more time.

_{I discovered Thainess 10 years ago when I caught TAT stealing 8 of my photographs. After 6 emails that went unanswered, I finally sent them an invoice for licensing fees. Finally TAT responded, calling me, my wife, my family and my friends all STUPID. I was also told that I needed to immediately withdraw my invoice or I might be blacklisted because the Kingdom needs to protect its citizens from extortionists like me. And if I ever returned to Thailand I could be prosecuted for attempting to extort money from the government. Needless to say, I haven't been back. Thainess is truly unique.}
