BANGKOK: -- Police plan to summons and question Pada "Oat Pada" Buakhao, a close aide to Kittisak Mathujad, wanted in connection with an alleged Bt1.5-billion stolen from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Latkrabang (KMITL).

Crime Suppression Division (CSD) deputy chief Pol Colonel Kornchai Klaikleung said yesterday that police had summonsed a number of people for questioning in the case. If they found new evidence linking suspects to the embezzlement, they could be summonsed again and, if necessary, would face charges.

Worawan Suwannakut, head of the KMITL legal affairs division, and acting finance division head Lamduan Thinrat yesterday submitted more financial documents for the police probe. CSD deputy chief Pol Colonel Nos Sawetlek said former rector Thawil Phuengma and former vice rector Sappasit Limnorarat would be summonsed for additional information later.

There is something suspicious at KMITL which handles hundreds of million of baht and supposedly has annual independent audits done of its books, records, and control procedures. Yet now an audit discovers irregularities that lead to embezzlements occurring since 2012. There might be someone further up the Institute hiearchy responsible that hasn't been identified. No one at the Institute should be exempted from a thorough investigation, especially in tracing the money trails.
